Hey, quick question. My scooter won't turn over. I've charged the battery up to full power, and when I go to turn it over, it won't turn over, It just "clicks" like the battery is dead (at one point, even tried to jump it with a sedan- still just a click). I researched and figured that it's either the starter or the solenoid that's having problems, and I'm pretty sure it's the starter, but I wanted to make sure. I've done the test where I touch both poles of the solenoid to a screwdriver, it sparks, but it still doesn't turn over.
Is there anything else I should check before ordering a new starter?
Thanks!

Try grounding the starter motor, also, check your grounding connections to the frame. Lastly you can always yank the starter motor our and bench test it with a 12 volt power source.

I have had two starters that the ground had separated. Two screws where wires go into the starter motor, take them out and have a look under it. Might be worth it to take a look.

Just replaced the starter an hour ago, and it starts up beautifully!
So, if your scooter has started to be a tad bit harder and harder to start, taking more and more time to really turn over, and eventually just quits, check the starter. Mine was filled to the brim with oil.

Neighbor of mine was having this issue. Told him to pull his starter and bring it over and I would take a look. Think we found one problem...

It's not to hard to refresh one of these starters. Dumping out the oil is a good beginning. The commutator can become pitted and ruff Some 600 grit sandpaper will smooth it out cleaning with electric parts cleaner. New carbon brushes can also be soldered in if the old ones are bad (it's a real pain) And then add some axle grease to the bushings before reassembly. The O ring oil seals can found at the hardware store, neoprene is fine.
I do recommend a new starter but it nice to have a spare that will work
