Also check wire connectors especially the one that has wires from the stator running into it. I have been chasing my tail off and on for over a year and finally starting tearing plastic off the front figuring I had a bad connection. Plugs were all seated, but NOT the wire coming coming from the stator. It was bouncing around in the connection at the back of the plug. I wanted to beat my head against the wall. Finally! Then the *engine* started rattling? Wasn't the engine. The rear wheel bearing was toast (only 21K miles). Just when you think you know it all about your scoot

These dinky little belts just cannot stand up to WOT from every stop light, stop sign. Also the GY6 is a 150cc engine and not a 750cc Kawai. Pushing 22k on a 2006 GY6 and am on the 3rd belt, 3rd set of disk pads. Upgrade on main jet, exhaust, rollers and air filter. Have been here waay before it came to It Is The Ride and other than the usual maintenance has never let me down. At this point I am just curious to see how many chinos I can get out of the engine, but guessing other stuff will fall apart first. JMHO from one of the OLD guys.
