That jug looks like it's toast! Or is it just my old eyesight?

Paper filter elements don't like the wet, the oiled foam type is much better.

But don't confirm that.

An intake leak like that will cause you more problems than you can imagine!
Even if you just use some silicone or permatex gasket "maker" to seal it, you'll find it will probably run.
Then make some good gaskets.

Here I thought I was doing good at 1k a year. I am still on my first engine at almost 15k, but I may need to re-ring next year-ish.

Thanks rockynv.
These are different sizes too, and there are at least 12-15 of them. I would say from 10mm to 20mm in diameter. I didn't actually measure size or count them, though I did bite one just to test it, (sorry, don't own a durometer). They were made of a fairly soft rubber, almost tar like, but without the stickiness.
Sorry ahead of time is this is considered "barnyard mechanics", lol.

You confused me a bit.
You said stock and current rollers were at 17g, then said "need to go up a bit to 13 or 14". Wouldn't that be going down?
Anyhow, if the stock and new weights are the same, you wont necessarily have the same rpm/performance because you have a different variator.
Try going to 18-19g .
Some people equate "higher performance" with more revs, ect. Your 0-50 times may improve slightly with the new vari, but you'll lose fuel mileage, and it's just going to "feel" different.

Interesting look, and not nearly as hideous as most modern motorcycles.

Also, I am not sure where you are listening to lean or rich "bogs". Typically, a rich bog will produce some black smoke, and a lean bog will just make no power and if you hold the throttle, may eventually "catch" and make very little power unless the throttle if turned up slowly.

Man those threads have a lot of crap in them!
Going to a "pod" type filter shouldn't change the air/fuel mixture all that much unless your old filter was ridiculously restrictive.
That plug looks not perfect, but ok, but try a NEW one before you start screwing with other stuff.
It sounds like your variator isn't working right.
