Just a brief survey-
What Make/model/engine size and type? Total miles? Any repairs?
I am trying to get a "guestimate" of what's happening in general with the Chinese scoots.
I have a Yamaha 2002 Vino 50 (japanese, 2stroke, air cooled)
15k miles.
No repairs. The 14year old battery still works. I've replaced two rear tires, three plugs, one air filter element. I'm going to replace the belt since I bought one a long time ago (at 5k) because someone told me that would be about the life of the belt.....of course "they" also said batteries last 3 years!
What are you all getting for belt life, batteries, ect?
Thanks!

Well, I'll set the low-end of your survey, although like you I'm also not driving Chinese.
2005 Piaggio BV200 4-stroke liquid-cooled (edited to fix my strokes, thanks to fly') something over 7k miles no repairs, just the annual spring tuneup battery just got hinky this winter (the Battery Tender Jr would go green to red to green to red....)

3- 2015 Zodic's Ice Bear trikes 3,000 mile in 5 months change oil, adjust chain, exhaust bolts, come loose a couple, of times. All fairness I do maintenance regular as I was in the maintenance field for years just in my blood. And of coarse a trike is much different as far a maintenance then scoots IMO. For got 300cc water coooled about the largest in the Ice Bear class

2008 Baccio VX 150, 4-stroke - here is a link to specs - www.baccio.com/baccio_vx_150.htmBought used (obviously - ) last December from 2nd owner with about 8100 km, so 5033 miles. Currently 9222 km, so 5730 miles. Total I've put on is 697 miles. Owned about 3 months, so about 233 miles per month. Don't know about repairs before I owned it (second owner had it about a year, and had changed the belt and battery and put new tires on when he got it), but I have fixed a short in the headlight wiring, re-tightened the steering column bolt, put air in the tires, gas in the tank, added a bit of oil to the engine, and now have to find the time to engineer some way to get a left-side mirror to mount, since the original mount has corroded into non-existence... Oh, good place for a question - do I want to change the oil at 1000 km or 1000 miles?

I put quite a few miles on my 50 (72cc), that I've had 8 years this month. I'm about to turn 54,000km (aka 33,554 real miles). If I could ride on the highway, I'd have 200,000 on the odometer by now, easily.
Of course, it'd be nice if I still had the original engine. On my 4th(?) now. I change the oil almost twice as much as I used to, and have about 14k with this engine-- which is pretty good for me. I also changed my final gears from 51/15 to 49/17, and that's kept my rpms down quite a bit during max speed.
My scooter is in my sig.

2014 Znen SSR Pacifica 150, 6212 miles, replaced front master cylinder when I first got her, standard maintenance since, zero breakdowns.
I commute on her daily with a short stretch on the freeway, the larger wheels and CVT components allow me to keep up with the slow lane at 65-75mph, and if there's a strong tailwind I can push her to 80mph.

Oh, good place for a question - do I want to change the oil at 1000 km or 1000 miles? 1000 miles would be kind of excessive. If it's running right, at least twice that would be o.k.

Delivered in a crate, 4 years ago last month.
2011 Jonway, Milan (150t-f), 157QMJ 9,192 breakdown free miles Parts replaced: battery after 2 years, intake manifold, when hairline cracks were noticed while doing regular PM, fuel pump, when it started letting fuel by the diaphram, rubber boot on end of spark plug cap, and one auto enricher. That's it....everything else just routine maintenance, rear tires with nail punctures, or just worn out, drive belt after 6,832 miles (didn't break, no cracks or fraying, just getting a bit narrow)
Only mods done to this scoot are: K&N air filter, 115 main jet in carb, 14 gr sliders in variator, VDO volt meter, and oil temp gauges, front suspension replaced with Honda Metropolitan rear shocks, and I've added a few extra LED turn signals and an additional LED stop light.
All else is factory original.
PS: have always changed my oil at 600 miles (manual recommends 1000 km = 621 miles). It cost less than $2.50

I don't like the way my engine has been sounding the last 2 days.

Here I thought I was doing good at 1k a year. I am still on my first engine at almost 15k, but I may need to re-ring next year-ish.

I purchased a 2014 Peace Industry Bashan BLX 150cc 1P57QMJ in October of 2014, I currently have 14.5 k miles on it. It's only broken down on me once and that was because the tech that worked on it placed the wrong size belt on it and it shredded it. I've gone through 3 mufflers on it, the cheaper stock brand, because it was running lean and neither of the 2 guys I had working on it ever deduced that, that was the problem. With me being a newb, I totally trusted their advice and within the first year I had it, each guy had it in the shop for a month waiting on parts and repairs. Needless to say I thought I had better learn how to fix my baby myself. Since then, and thanks to this forum, I've learned to do the basic maintenance and most repairs myself. Back to your survey: - I change the oil every 600-700 miles
- Changed to a 115 mm variator @ 1000 miles
- Changed out Stator and Starter Drive due to failure
- Replaced all vacuum and fuel lines due to cracking @ 10k miles
- Currently using a Casoli variable timing cdi and orange performance coil
- Installed a set of Pirelli SL26 tires @ 3k miles, will replace the rear shortly but still going at 14.5k miles
- Replaced R/R @ 13.7k miles
- Replaced carb after first couple of thousand miles for a carb with adjustable A/F mixture screw
- Had issues with burping at wot, tried various set-ups( changing jets, cdi's, spark plugs, valve timing, switched to manual fuel cut-off), till I finally figured out it was float bowl that needed adjusting
- Now I see I will have to order a new throttle cable
- All and all, what was once a scoot that kind of randomly ran within its powerband, now can run smoothly and powerfully getting to about 65 GPS verified mph within the 8k rpm range and I'm loving it. It's a big difference from when I first got it, but just like any journey, It is the Ride that makes it all worth it. It's a pretty day here, so I'm about to go down and replace the flywheel, check my valves, upjet her by a couple of sizes and change the variator weights and see how she does from there. Keep the rubber side down and have a good day.
