Soooooo, basically I have a gy6 150 with a larger header, free flow exhaust, up jetted carb, and a uni type foam filter. It's about time for a new filter since my old one is unbelievably dirty even after a clean and it seems like the cheap foam didn't hold up too well. So this time I ordered a cone type deal with a plastic shield since I ride in the rain a lot, basically I'm curious if anyone else has used one like this and if the shield will cause any significant restriction compared to my foam one. I don't want it to mess up my jetting because I had that pretty dialed in. I got one like this

That looks like a fairly open filter. Shouldn't cause any problem.

Well this thing sucks, first off there is a lip after the 42 mm opening that constricts airflow. But the bigger problem is quality. Where the mesh attaches to the metal top is not glued in correctly so there are large gaps where dirt could just fly in. Might as well not have a filter, waste of 10 bucks also it says the opening is 42mm, but it fits looser than my foam one which is also a 42mm. Overall it's a p8ece of junk. I'm just gonna get another uni type foam deal.

Don't expect miracles for ten bucks, lol.
Or "you never know until you try it".

Lol, right? I didn't expect it to be amazing, but I didn't expect it to be absolutely nonfunctional. I oiled it and checked it with a light and if i hadn't I wouldn't have noticed the gaping leaks...imagine if someone put that on their engine and went riding in the dirt! However my last filter was only like 5 bucks (uni knockoff) and it works great, but being unshielded the outer 2nd stage part got super grimy and is like still black after a clean ( the inner part is pretty clean though I guess that second stage did it's job. I guess the uni design is good even when copied on the cheap.

Hi, I've had really good luck with the cone style air cleaners ,but I've always used the Moxi brand filler ,I guess not all cone fillers are of good quality. I've even put the Moxi brand on some of my buddy's scooters that I worked on with no problems.as far as riding in the rain I don't do much of that but when I have I had no problem at all.so I wouldn't bad mouth all cone fillers but as we all know when it comes to parts for the Chinese scooters not all of them are of good quality.sadly it's buyer be wear .later guys

I went for the shielded one I was worried unshielded would be bad in the rain and i ride in the rain a fair bit, there werent many optins for shielded ones, mostly no name generics. I've heard they can have issues when wet, I've never had problems with foam though

Paper filter elements don't like the wet, the oiled foam type is much better.

Hi as I said in the previous thread I don't do much riding in the rain,so if you do a lot of riding in the rain I can see where the foam filter would be a better chose. although I guess that would depend on where the filter is located on the scoot. In my case it's up under the plastic body panels and not out in the elements .my only problem with the form filter other than the large size was the look especially after you run them for a while they turn black.now I know this because I've ran them on go carts before. now, I can hear it already function before looks but as some of you have guessed I'm a California guy and out here looks do matter (sorry that's just the way it is) and I like it that way.but I can see if you have to ride in the rain function is what counts. and will keep you from being stranded along the road. but if looks and function are your goal I think the cone filter is a good chose (and you don't ride in the rain often) I almost forgot jerryscript's ? .no the Moxi fiter I use is not shielded. got to go, later my freinds
