That's a nice looking scooter. A bit pricey for me though. I liked the comment about needing ABS if you're buying this for your "child". Uh huh. Not going to happen. If they are big enough for a bike like this one, they are big enough to buy it themselves. It must be nice though to have that kind of dough. "Daddy get me a scooter. This one here. Stop laughing Daddy!"

First of all I'd like to congratulate the Chinese scooter Mfgs for figuring out how to train gorillas to put on variator and clutch nuts. That said, I am not a gorilla and my 1/2" impact wrench cannot get some of these insanely tight nuts off, so I'm asking you all what you use. On my first scooter, "Scootie", I had to grind the clutch nut off after three impact wrenches, mine, a mechanic friend's, and the local scooter shop's, all failed to remove it. Then I had a 250cc nut I couldn't get off, and now a 50cc nut I can't get loose, so I'm going to buy something with more buttocks. Here's what's at Harbor Freight: www.harborfreight.com/12-volt-1-2-half-inch-emergency-impact-wrench-92349.htmlThis is the Pittsburgh 12v Emergency Impact Wrench. I had some bad reviews, with many complaints about not getting nuts loose. It is rated at 150 ft/lbs, got 2-1/2 stars out of five, and it's only $22.99 www.harborfreight.com/12-in-Professional-Air-Impact-Wrench-68424.htmlNext we have the 1/2" Central Pneumatic "Earth Quake" Professional Impact Wrench. It had several bad reviews about breaking down and not having the torque specified. One review said their cheap electric worked better. Some reviews said it was good but several said not for rusted on nuts or that it was good for light to medium duty. It is rated at 700 ft/lbs, got 4-1/2 stars, and is $99.99 ~ only $74.99 with coupon. www.harborfreight.com/3-4-quarter-inch-heavy-duty-impact-wrench-66984.htmlLast we have the Central Pneumatic 3/4" Heavy Duty Impact Wrench. The reviews for this one were very favorable, even for getting big nuts off of cranks and pulleys and even Mac Truck nuts. "Like butter" said one reviewer. It is rated at 1,000 ft/lbs, got 4-1/2 stars and it is $94.99 I really hate returning things to the store so this last one seems like the most sure bet without spending a lot or going to a one inch impact. It also looks like it will work well on cars, but before I buy one tomorrow, I'd like to hear everyone's input on what has worked for getting these gorilla torqued scooter nuts off, especially ones torqued from the factory.

I'm not sure about the rest of you but I haven't seen any 50cc gy6 scooters in the sport bike style until I came across this one. 50cc Sport Bike I have seen the Roma and the Hornet in the 150cc version but this ups the game a little in the 50cc category. What are your thoughts and have any of you seen one of these? I think riding it would be a HUGE disappointment. The very aggressive body style would be ruined by the slow engine. It looks nice but it's heavy and under powered plus has a low rider weight limit. You could likely outrun it with a regular 49cc scooter. This would be a good bike for someone who wants to look cool but isn't ready for, or doesn't want, a high powered machine.

I've certainly had second thoughts about riding since my accident. We're at the mercy of idiots out there. I saw some news this weekend about a hit and run that killed a rider. Seems the car pulled out in front of him. A simple little thing, pulling out onto a road, turned into a tragic death because someone couldn't wait a second. Agree, some people turn into psychos when they are behind the wheel, they think a few seconds of their life is worth more the anyone else's right to be alive. I bought a helmet camera to record every time I'm out on the road, that way if I get in an accident because a moron was in a rush, I have proof to hand to the authorities, and if I get killed, the police will have proof to get the a-hole behind bars where he/she belongs. People do dumb stuff. Someone pulled out into my lane the other day. I swerved around them but traffic was very, very, light, like three cars on the road, so it's not like they had to hurry. They were already stopped at the stop sign and waiting to go, so unless they were psychos, they didn't see me and I was no more than 50 feet away with lights on in the morning. What kind of fool am I for riding a bike with people like that sharing the road? Once again, on lane splitting, I would argue that we do NOT want to be lane splitting with these kind of people out there. Just sharing the road with them on our bikes is proof that we're all crazy anyway. That helmet cam is a good idea. How much do they cost, how long do they run on a charge and how long do they record before running out of memory? And where do you mount it?

Thank you that sounds like a great idea, I've been poking around and doing research trying to make sure that before I open it up I will have enough know how to complete the task! The CVT looks the only part of the scooter I know nothing about lol. I may end up getting rid of all of the emissions control stuff first even though it wasn't on my radar until the other night. I think people should leave their emissions equipment on. It's there for a reason and doesn't seem to affect performance unless it's broken. I know people like to simplify things to avoid problems but if why trash the environment for no good reason? I also think it's irresponsible to encourage people to remove their emissions systems. It's just asking the government to "crack down" on the scooter community. Where I live we don't have scooter emissions checks, and I'd like to keep it that way and avoid the hassle of yet another government program. Just my opinion.

Wow. Talk about getting your shorts in a bunch. I'm glad to hear you're okay. The factory exhaust on the Aprilia is built like a tank and really took the hit very well. The plastic heat shield got scuffed up and could be sanded down and repainted however the driver offered to pay for the $50 replacement so I took him up on it. I still have the damaged heat shield and will probably sand it down and paint it to have as a spare. The Journal of Medicine article on that broken hip has been a bit unsettling since it shows what could have been if I wasn't able to ride things out and seeing where the ball of the femur ended up is a haunting vision that keeps coming back since I seem to be getting constant reminders where I work since we have 60" and 72" televisions covering all the news outlets hanging on the walls where I work and several times a day there is some kind of report about hip injuries, advancements in replacement tech, motorcycle accidents, etc, etc. I've certainly had second thoughts about riding since my accident. We're at the mercy of idiots out there. I saw some news this weekend about a hit and run that killed a rider. Seems the car pulled out in front of him. I've never tried selling something on CL, so I'm a bit unsure on how I should proceed in this situation. Lady came out last Sat and test-drove the Taurus. Loved him. Except of course he had to make me a liar and red-line the temp gauge. Bad car. We left things Sat that the guys would add the leak sealer stuff Mon (since they were almost closing) and I'd let her know how things went. They found out the coolant was low, which probably caused the heating. And added the sealer so that'll take care of burning off coolant. Emailed her that night that my main mech drove my car home to make sure things were good. She replied asking when we could get together. I replied either Thurs or Fri before work, or Sat. I also let her know mech drove the wagon around Tues and home again just to really confirm no overheating issues at all. She wrote back asking my day off. I replied Sat. And there's been silence then, since Tues pm. Meanwhile, a friend of both my mech and the guy who's done body work on the wagon has gotten with me. His old Crown Vic has something so wrong with the front end that it's actually become dangerous to drive. He knows all about my car--it was funny, he met with mech Dave for lunch and wanted to know why he was driving Kathy's wagon. He wants to buy my car (price unknown as I didn't think to ask what he would offer). I really do want to get my wagon sold. Besides that he's costing me money on taxes and insurance, I also hate that he's just sitting and not being used. Well, I guess not being used by a new owner, since my mech's been driving him around . If it matters, she seemed a really nice lady. Has four kids, who of course fought to sit in the third row. And yet were good kids, didn't mess around with the car or anything. If she'd been like the guy from Lawrence who asked if my car would last 6 months 'cause that's all he needed it for, then I wouldn't hesitate. He was rather a jerk. She was not. So what does courtesy dictate here? Do I jump on mech's friend offer to buy (assuming he offers what I'm wanting)? Or am I obligated to continue waiting for lady to get back with me, since we had a verbal agreement on selling her the wagon? Thanks guys for advice on this. >'Kat I try to be nice and help people out but people on craigslist are super flakey and I have learned the golden rule is "When you give give me money, it's sold." No money, no deal. Let them know if they want it, they should hurry up and buy it.

I tried the same thing. Mine was around 8.75 to 1 or something like that. The good news is that if you are already in the variator, it's just a couple of more bolts to open the gear box. By the way, did your RPMs go back to normal with the OEM variator? I'm guessing they will. Hey Scoot RE: RPMs. Don't know yet. Also put the original rollers back in - much heavier. So maybe not; will see tomorrow. RE: gearbox: have to take the wheel off and go in from the right side (I think) For that have to take the muffler & exhaust off,. And so on and so on and so on. Only have one gasket. Might be more trouble than it's worth. .... I don't know about all the different setups, but as I recall, on my 150 gy6, at the rear there are three or four bolts around the back of the variator/clutch area, where you put your gear oil in. You take the cover off and voila, gears.

GEH (and a few others) have been recommending I bounce up my rear gears. Problem is no one seems to be able to say what gears are already in there (OEM), and i don't want to tear the thing apart just to find out. So today I put the OEM variator back in (to see if the Dr. Pepper P.O.C. i bought for almost $100 is why I do not see RPMs above 7400). While the cover was off I had an idea. Marked the clutch bell and the rear tire, then rotated the tire exactly one turn and checked how many revolutions of the bell that corresponded to. Seven and a third clutch revs equals one wheel rev. Anyone have any idea if that can be used to figure out what gears are in the box? I tried the same thing. Mine was around 8.75 to 1 or something like that. The good news is that if you are already in the variator, it's just a couple of more bolts to open the gear box. By the way, did your RPMs go back to normal with the OEM variator? I'm guessing they will.

I'm tired of those damn plastic body panels, they keep braking and get in the way when I have to work on my scoot. Anyone done this here? Is it bad for the engine, generator and starter motor to get wet when it rains? Any good Ideas how to sort the cables and electrical components? When I got my first scooter I tinkered with it a lot, so I left various body panels, and even the floorboards, off for some time. I put a little silicon on the TOP of my electrical connections and left the bottom open to let condensation out. The body panels are easy to fix with plastic weld epoxy and replacement screw clips. It's always best to keep things clean and dry, but if you're going to be taking the thing apart all the time...

It is really cool. The way I read to do it is to put the thing on TDC or whatever and move the little adjusters like .004 or one notch but look at this video and see the easy way to do it while it is running. Yes, while it is running. Amazing. Whoever came up with this idea was a genius. Interesting, could you link to the kit or instructions for setting an external valve adjuster up? I don't know if there is one. This is standard on the cf and cn 250's. I need to open one up or get a diagram and see how it works.

You just had a wreck recently, didn't you? How are you doing? Back in November I was hit by a large Buick SUV going about 35 mph but was able to ride it out without physical injuries just some damage to the exhaust on the bike. Thanks for asking. Doing better than this poor rider whose hip injury from a motorcycle accident was documented in the New England Journal of Medicine a few weeks back in February (this one gives me the Willy's): Femoral-Head Dislocation to the ScrotumNote that this is a Medical Journal and some guys may not be able to ride after seeing this. Ouch! Wow. Talk about getting your shorts in a bunch. I'm glad to hear you're okay.
