Hi, I have no advice to offer specific to the oil seal but I can add this, you should also post this thread on these two sites: thescooterprofessor.proboards.com/scooterdoc.proboards.com/On a side note, I have purchased a 180cc engine kit and will be doing what you're doing... I will more or less be re-building the engine... I've done a mower motor and wrenched on many of cars, but never a GY6. So, would you please keep this thread updated with your progress and solutions?

That oil seal remover works great I have one like that. All your concerned about is NOT to scratch the Case. Since your tearing it down, spray it with WD-40 and try and rotate the seal inside there and get it unstuck. But you should be able to pull it out with your fingers since the crank is out. Alleyoop

Hi, Thank you for the quick answer. i'll try with the wd-40 before using the oil seal remover tool. dmartin95, i will try and post updates, and i'm sure i will have more questions. :-) And here is another question: I noitced that SYM are using a different way (at least on that engine) to operate the oil pump. Instead of a chain, there is a plastic gear which connect to a small gear on the bottom of the clutch starter. Also, the Woodruff Key seems to be metal, and it looks like it's part of the crankshaft. Ever seen that? Here is a picture:

Yea you will find the same oil pump setup on your 50ccs 139QMB motors the pump is behind that gear. You can actually see the 3 screws holding the pump onto the case. Alleyoop

so i noticed something on the left case. you can see in the picture where i marked it with red circle. I think it got damaged from a tool been dropped on that accidentally, or it was there. don't know. Anyhow, it's looks like the gasket is going under it, and when you look at the picture of the right case, it doesn't seems that point is meeting the other side with the same round shape. (see picture of the right case). Do you think it's critical, or it's ok?

its ok it is not where the gasket seals as you can see it it the gold part does not seal

I tried to remove one of the crankshaft oil seals (variator side), and having trouble with that. the inside of the oil seal got torn, but the rest is stuck. Maybe you are trying to pull the seal out on the variator side, try pushing it in instead! When I changed my oil seal I just pushed it in with my fingers, no problem at all.

Don't you supposed to pull it from the variator side? Anyway, it doesn't move either way. This engine did around 115,000 KM without ever opening it. I actually didn't have time to try with the WD-40 like alleyoop said. Looks like quite a job! I'll be interested to see how it pans out. Were the parts expensive for the rebuild? Cheers! Thank you, hopefully i will be able to assemble everything back together. I ordered all genuine SYM parts, so it's a little more expensive.

If we were supposed to pull it out from the variator side it would be great risk for the oil seal to pop out if you get pressure in the crankhouse from a blow-by in the cylinder. My oil seals slide in perfectly from the inside.

Some updates: Finally i had some time, so i did a few things. First of all, i removed that crank oil seal. I used the "oil seal remover tool" . All i had to do is pull it a little, and the oil seal started to move. Then i was able to just push it out with my fingers. Btw, i pulled it out from the variator side. The removed oil seal and where it was: My rear shock bushing was completely destroyed, so i had to replace it. You need to use some kind of bushing remover. The rear bushing is 20mm, so my father machined this puller: This is how i used it: And this is the old bushing: I also took the crankshaft to a place where they replaced the bearings, including the connecting rod bearing. I have a question on how to remove the old gaskets? On some of the parts, there are gaksets pieces that are stuck. How do you remove these without damaging the surfaces?

WD-40 soaked in, then scrape with a paint scraper, keeping it as flat as possible.
