i'm getting a lot of the same thing. 250cc scooters might not be available in the US anymore, although i have seen them listed on sites like roketa they always appear to be "sold out". i've also been looking for a 250 scooter, especially the 244, simply because i have a lot of experience with this engine size. instead of looking for the entire scooter, i've been looking into just the engine, because i already have the frame. scrappydog sells this engine, and it seems it might fit my frame. be aware that there are 3 different styles of the 244, the short case that mounts a 12 inch wheel, the long case that mounts a 13 inch wheel, and the cart, which isn't meant for scooters. good luck in your search, let us know if you find a 244 scoot. several sites have them listed, but none of them are available. edit: there appears to be several 250s on the following site, but it's a dealers only site. you will need to find a dealer that would be willing and able to order from them: www.roketa.com/product/productlist/2610.shtmlthe scoots available are: MC-54-250; a 244cc MC-54-300| a 257cc

this situation is really simple (to me anyway). you provide the right compression, air/ fuel ratio, and timing (including spark), the scoot WILL start. the OP has confirmed the mechanical aspects (no cracked heads or cylinder). inspection should have verified crank/ connecting rod integrity. it should have also verified pickup and stator placement. electrical testing should have verified no shorts to ground. i wonder if the OP even tested the pickup. proper torquing should have verified no leaks in the assembly. proper inspection should have verified no bent valve stems or any other such anomalies. the timing should have been verified at assembly, the cam chain tensioner should have likewise been properly installed.
all of the above only leave 2 possibilities. the coil is weak or there is some kind of short in the wiring somewhere. seeing as the engine is on the bench, this disproves the short in the wiring scenario. which leaves only one, a weak coil, but the OP has already said he replaced it.
frankly, i have no further comment on this.

Tora! Tora! Tora! (don't have this one on DVD, but whenever is shows up on cable I try to watch) + other WWII movies this movie is sub titled. the dialog is japanese but it's sub titled into english. personally i do not like sub titled movies, because it distracts you from the visuals. you are too busy reading the sub titles instead of watching the movie. i have to agree that WW2 movies, and especially actual combat footage appeals to me. there was great strategy all over the globe in regards to WW2. i have quite a bit of material on WW2. a stack of DVDs in paper sleeves at least 7 inches thick.

Sounds like dollar twenty five is a Raquel Welch fan. I have not come up with My top 5 list, but the man who would be king and Monty python and the Holy grail are on it, floridagull. not a raquel welch fan. the reasons i picked my movies: (1.) this is an inspiring documentary, a true rags to riches legend known as dale earnhardt. flat broke and hardly any education, his man almost became NASCAR itself within his lifetime. not only that, this man was a true genius behind the wheel. (2.) another doumentary, but it had a tragic ending. it gives a gripping account of the endurance of man under adverse conditions. (3.) science fiction. great visuals, that even today doesn't seem dated. (4.) science fiction. great visuals and storyline, the acting isn't too bad either. (5.) science fiction. this one is more cerebral than the others.

actually i wasn't thinking about the engine, but now that you mentioned it, i might try to get it running again. the lowdown: i was riding close to WOT when the engine made a really strange sound, it almost sounded like the starter clutch locked up engaging the starter. the engine wound down and quit, and it hasn't started since, and that was 4 years ago. i parked it out back thinking i would save enough money to get another engine for it. scrappy sells them for about 1000 bucks. various things have prevented me from saving much money.
i bet that is exactly what happened too, the starter clutch locked up.

When riding one has to be aware that there will be unknown unknowns on the road ahead and while some may be very pleasant we do have to be prepared to deal with the extremely unpleasant ones too by riding in a safe and reasonable manner. i found this out the hard way one day. i was tearing up some local back roads i never been on before. these were straight roads with no twisties, the perfect kind for lighting up the wind. then i topped the next hill. instead of clean hard asphalt, i was met with wall to wall gravel and pot holes. man, you talk about your heart jumping into your throat! i don't think god himself could have scared me that bad. luckily i got through it, but it will be something i will always remember.

in indiana, the skill videos i've seen do not recommend riding 2 abreast, but instead riding in a staggered formation. this is essentially single file except every other bike rides on the left and right sides of the lane.

has anyone else noticed that here in the states, that gas prices fell through the floor at about the same time gun violence escalated? what if this isn't coincidence? what are the international forces that can explain this?

i've had this scoot sitting out back for the last 4 years. what will i have to do to the carb to use it again? no special precautions were taken, the scoot wasn't covered. the fuel, oil, or coolant wasn't drained. the battery was removed and sold 2 years ago. i've kept the weeds off of it, kept the ground it was sitting on cleared.

i've been doing some searching, trying to come up with some answers for you. i found the following thread interesting, for a few reasons. it mentions the scooter not starting, it mentions the same compression(30psi), and it was posted 3 years ago. scooterdoc.proboards.com/thread/6698my scooter refused to start on a number of occasions, and they were always solved by scoping out the scoot. the valves needed adjustment, or the intake was cracked, or a wire was grounded. my advice to you is just hold your nose, and dive in. let us know what you find. BTW, 80% of the problems with my scoot was the direct result of crappy wiring/ switches. so i rewired it, and i didn't have a schematic, i had to come up with my own.

I did and i didn't get any reading this was your answer to if you checked the compression. no compression indicates stuck, broken, or burnt valves, or some type of piston problem (hole in it, rings are completely gone, connecting rod broken) i'm sorry to say it but your engine will need to be dismantled. if you do not have good mechanical aptitude then i would defer to a mechanic if i were you. do not proceed if you do not feel confident in your abilities. if you know the difference between a rocker arm and an idler arm, then you should be okay. BTW, one is an engine part, the other is a chassis part. a couple other causes would be blown head gasket or a cracked head or cylinder.

the pickup becoming misaligned is not very likely. judging from the info i have so far i would guess either the coil isn't hot enough or the fuel being poured in through the vacuum hose is flooding the plug. this is why i said to use a spray bottle. you wouldn't need to remove the carb, but then you still need to remove the fuel line and plug it, plus you would need to WOT the throttle, then spray into the carb inlet while cranking.
another tip would be to keep your battery on a tender when not working on your ride. also, your engine should start almost as soon as you hit the start switch. surely within 5 seconds. anything longer than that indicates a problem somewhere.
i'm not sure of your particular garage setup, or even if you have one. i'll read the thread to get the back story so i can better help you.

I'm getting 30 psi compression when i try to start it but it still won't start what about the timing? have MADE SURE it's timed correctly? if the rotor and pulse pickup are misaligned, this scoot will fail to start. like i said, this would be unlikely on a new scoot, and it's the reason i asked if you got the bike second handed. also, the fuel must be atomized, letting it pour in through a vacuum line can easily flood the plug. i don't know what engine you have, so i don't know if 30psi is within specs. i guess i should have asked, so i'm doing it now, what size engine do you have?
