i've had this scoot sitting out back for the last 4 years. what will i have to do to the carb to use it again? no special precautions were taken, the scoot wasn't covered. the fuel, oil, or coolant wasn't drained. the battery was removed and sold 2 years ago. i've kept the weeds off of it, kept the ground it was sitting on cleared.

The carb needs to come off disassemble and clean very well,,,making sure all the jets are clean,,,,I'd also drain the tank and give the filters and screens the long look maybe change hoses,,,unless under careful inspection they look free of cracks and dryness,,,change oil and I'd do the final drive oils too but that's me,,,there's a start

actually i wasn't thinking about the engine, but now that you mentioned it, i might try to get it running again. the lowdown: i was riding close to WOT when the engine made a really strange sound, it almost sounded like the starter clutch locked up engaging the starter. the engine wound down and quit, and it hasn't started since, and that was 4 years ago. i parked it out back thinking i would save enough money to get another engine for it. scrappy sells them for about 1000 bucks. various things have prevented me from saving much money.
i bet that is exactly what happened too, the starter clutch locked up.

Outside in the weather for 4 years means the radiator is potentially at least partially clogged, the entire brake system is rotting to some degree from the inside out, any chassis/wheel bearing grease is history and the tires are beyond any reasonable expectation for safe usage. Regardless of usage a water cooled bike require the coolant to be flushed out every 2 years and hydraulic brake systems also have to be flushed every 2 years also. That bike needs new tires and every moving part checked and properly lubricated along with every hose replaced before being used again. If it was stored indoors fewer hoses would need to be replaced and the seat would probably be in better condition as would the exposed parts of the fork tubes. You have a lot of restoration to do besides just throwing a new engine in there.
