My stator broke into 1000 parts at the 2300 KM mark. Had to replace both the stator and the cover.

I am glad to hear you were not horribly injured or killed! Sorry to hear the scooter you just got running right was hit!. I carry full coverage insurance on mine, but honestly I think that really is only effective for theft. If I ever get hit hard enough to total the bike I doubt I will survive.
It is rather morbid of me but I went on youtube and looked for all the motorcycle and scooter crashes I could find. Most of the time it was a car turning left, second most common was just the scooter/motorcycle going to fast for the traffic conditions.
Your guardian angel was working overtime on your physical well being.

My shocks on the rear have a chrome top and I see yours do not. Will have to wait for daylight and a chance to take a decent picture to share.

I have a 2014 model TaoTao EVO ATM and I have not observed any issue with the rear and I am a big guy. I do notice that chug holes make the front headlight assembly rattle. Would a new set of shocks solve you issue? The shocks are adjustable, what about changing the setting?

I really think it more an issue of dealers to avoid rather than a brand. Find out the reputation of the dealer and ask them what they charge for repairs. Ask them specifically what the warranty covers and does not cover. Ask them if the starter were to fail i the first ninety days, is that covered because it is part of the engine or not covered because it is an electrical component.

Certainly sounds like this is the first oil change the scooter ever got.

2600 KM or around 1650 miles. Used to run it WOT most of the time, but that seems to make the valves go out of adjustment too quickly. So I refrain from that now.
I have the exact same bike, ATM EVO 150. Did not have the issues you have, the weeks on mine are NICE and have only spotted one thing that was put together in a shoddy way. One of the clips that hold the fuel lines was actually caught in some other assembly. No biggie, just loosen that up first and then take the fuel line clip off.
I take that back, The stator came loose inside the housing stranding me on the side of the road, but that was after 2300 KM or doing a lot of WOT. I won't be doing much WOT riding anymore. If you start hearing a lot of vibration on the side of your scoot from the side of the stator. Don't wait for it to fail, go ahead and take it apart and tighten things up. DOH! Wish I had done that.

Welcome to life on two wheels. If you don't have to take some state mandated safety course I recommend you go to youtube and look for 'motorcycle fail' 'motorcycle crash' also instead of motorcycle use 'scooter'.
Yes I do want to scare you just a little, enough to get you to be careful and stay alive.
If you have any friends who ride get with them and discuss driver safety. You can learn much from an old salt.
Regards Allen

The first scooter (I call it a moped) I had back in the 70's looked much like this. Mine came from Montgomery Wards. Your's looks really nice. How fast does she run? My Montgomery Ward's special could outrun a 10 speed, but beyond that, was a regular turtle, perhaps 25 MPH if you were on flat ground with out a crosswind.

Howdy,
I commute often 27 miles on a 150CC China Scoot. I think you are wise to get a 250CC one.
As for China or not china, It all boils down to are you willing and able to do your own repairs or are you going to rely on the dealer. If you think you have to rely on the dealer, the quality diffence on a name brand may pay off in the long run.
If you are handy with tools and mechanically inclined, the savings up front may continue to pay as you do it yourself maintenance.
Are you new to the two wheeled world? If so perhaps you should go to youtube and watch a few crash videos. You can learn what not to do, by watching others misfortunes.
Howdy from Big D Dallas.

I looked on Craigslist and found a dealer in my general area that advertised good prices on GY6 type Scooters. I found Dallas Power Sports.
I liked the fact that they allow you to layaway purchase.
They allow local pick up or shipment but they tell you the local price may vary from the ship price.
All told with tax title and license the out the door price was $300 more than the advertised price. I think half of that was indeed tax and registration.
They warn you that only the engine is covered by the warrant and even then they will charge $50. to service under warranty.
I bought my scooter and got 2300 KM of enjoyment and then got stranded on the side of the road. I tried all I knew but came to the conclusion that something was going on with the stator and didn't want to go that far into the bike, being only two months old. I took it back to DPS and asked them to fix it for me. They called three days later and said it was ready and the bill would be $440.
I was like ?
I expected $100 or less.
They claimed they replaced the clutch, the stator ((AND magneto)) adjusted the valves and changed the oil. Hum, I only asked for the start issue to be resolved.
After discuss the issue in detail they lowered the bill to $411.
I still think they were at least $211 high, and not convinced they did all the work they claimed to. On the pro side, the scooter runs very well now. I think however I will be very very desperate to err consider letting them work on the bike again. I will write to TAOTAO and see if they will do anything at all for me. Also from what I have read, the stator and magneto are all one unit and I should not have been charged as though there were two separate parts replaced. Basically it all boils down to warranty, (THERE IS NONE!)

Does anyone know if TaoTao puts the washer in the clutch plate on the 150 like is often done on the 50 CC scoots to limit them to 30 MPH. Via gps my scoot seldom exceeds 49 mph. I have already replaced the CDI and spark plug and coil. I only run ethyl gas. I don't expect a bunch more, but 55 MPH would be nice.
I am a big guy, at 300 lbs so I don't expect to set land speed records with a 150CC scoot. But just hoped for a little better.
You think playing with the variator weights would do any good? Could the muffle be restricted?
Just playing 20 questions... LOL

I got my first scooter the last day of February. It's a TaoTao150 EVO-ATM. I have a 23 mile commute and I have already logged 1200 clicks.
I changed the factory engine oil at 200 clicks, and gear oil at 300. At 800 clicks I installed one of these performance CDI's. The orange one. Today I finally got round to installing an 'upgraded' spark plug and ignition coil.
My wife says I spend more time playing with the scooter than I do spending time with her. She was out in the yard today giving me an earful and I dropped the new plug and it rolled down into the stator assembly area. So then I took even longer to fix things because I had to loosen some of the other panels to retried the AWOL spark plug.
I half expected no fire when I finally did button things back together. But it fired right over. I am not so convinced the performance CDI has made any great difference. The one or two mph differences could be just the presence of or lack there of tail/head wind.
I don't understand the wife being jealous of the scooter though, lol.
