I have seen a person who named his scooter his "China Girl". I call my red Chinese scooter 'Elvira'.
I have even been know to talk to her, mostly praises for a safe ride home.
What do you call your scooter?

I am already at like 80% of total weight capacity, so with a passenger I am over the stated weight limit. It handles poorly then.... :-(

I have been driving a Evo ATM 150 since February. Been in shop one time due to stator failure. Been mostly reliable otherwise. In the Dallas area the price difference between the EVO 150 and Powermax 150 is $100. Really not sure what the difference really boils down to. I am 6'2" and on the heavy side. The EVO does just fine with me.

Sounds like a really mixed bag, mostly bad news. I assume you didn't have any insurance on it. I have full coverage on mine from Geico and only cost $1 a day. I think if you surf around you will find almost every part you could want or need. Just a matter of ordering the right one. I guess I am morbidly curious what all the damage looks like, if you could post pictures.

Rainy Ride

So the forecast was 10% chance of rain, I didn't see anything that looked like rain so I rode to work. During the night I brought up a radar website and it showed rain, but looking outside 99% of what was falling was evaporating before it hit the ground. Two hours later when I got off work was another story. It was only a light rain but everything was wet.
I got out my harbor freight rain slicker and put it on. Stayed below 40 MHP the whole 30 mile way home. Learned that harbor freight rain slickers are torn apart by wind at 40 mph, but also learned that if you avoid water puddles the scooter itself didn't mind the rain at all. :-)
Next time there is a chance of rain, if it's the least bit cold will not be taking the scooter.
BTW rain drops at 40 mph sting!

That looks very fun and just a bit dangerous all at the same time. I work nights and sleep days and every single 'bike' ride in the area thus far has been at a time it was impossible for me to attend or rained out.

I agree with most of the others, the previous owner(s) had something to do with the missing brake lever.

Unless the doctor says you have a real balance issue I would say practice makes perfect. Get more experience and you will build confidence and skill.

I got my TaoTao new in February. My daily commute is close to 30 miles one way. About once a month I have had one sort of exhaust problem or another.
In march I noticed the engine/exhaust noise was different. Discovered a hair-line crack right up in the very first bend of the exhaust pipe next to the head. Convinced the local AAA muffler shop to touch it up with arc welder with out even taking the pipe off.
In April it did the same thing just slightly different place on the pipe. (Must be the poorest grade steel possible in that pipe.
In may I was riding along came to a red light. When the light turned green 'poof' the whole darn pipe separated itself from the adapter that holds it to the head.
Took the pieces by the same AAA and they put it back together and was back on the road in short order.
Yesterday I stated hearing a little extra hiss in the exhaust. Thinking I had another hair line crack I went ahead and took the whole muffler off. I carefully examined it and all the welds 'looked' ok. Put it back on and put as much 'english' on the exhaust nuts as I dared. I don't hear the extra hiss any more but putting a towel over the exhaust pipe exit does NOT cause the engine to die. I know a towel is NOT air tight. But I don't think I am 100% exhaust leak free either. I think I need to get a new exhaust gasket and replace the one I have been reusing over and over again. I don't think I am leaking enough at this time to cause any engine problems. (You can't hear the extra hiss, or different sound to the exhaust). Just in my opinion if the exhaust were 100% sealed it should die if you block the end of the pipe with a towel.
Any of you have similar experience? Is there any kind of sealant that is ok to use in addition to the exhaust gasket ?

If you work at home, and you ride to the gas station and come back, does that count ? ;-)

Sounds like it's restricted. See all the multiple threads on de-restricting it.

I log into this forum several times a day looking for some new bit of news. I work as a help-desk analyst so I have lots of screen time. My scooter is my basic transportation, My wife gets the car. I have only had the scooter since February this year and am approaching 3500 KM. It's a Taotao and I know it's not a premium scooter but it gets me there. I went by the Vespa dealer in town and saw the Vespa and Buddy Scooters.
The trim and fit of those machines is obvious. But so is the price tag.Not much more to report. It's been nice riding weather in Texas for a month now, no coat needed even in the dark of night.
