The ventilator plastics around the cylinder became disjointed after a bump, and i didnt see, something overheated and cracked.
i did 20k with it sometimes becoming disjointed due to a broken bolt hole in the plastic.
recently i re-sealed the top cylinder joints and the performance increased.
I was riding along yesterday, everything perfect, and suddenly i hear a chink sound, like a cracking plate, and the moter powered half revs and turned 10 times, and then another dink sound and maybe some rattling, i though that some metal was juming on the road for a couple of seconds. i didnt hear clearly.
Then the bike was unresponsive. When i use the kickstarter, it sounds and turns like normal, and checked under the seat, the cylinder and all the metal does not look cracked.
I think it is perhaps the metal rods that join the piston to the turny thing?
What can i do? what could be cracked? i was loving that bike at the moment.

Piston failure, or maybe crank failure but that would probably cause a bit more damage to the engine case.

What type of scooter? Which engine? More info is always good, plus pics of the vent areas that you are talking about.. Several things can cause a non-start..

I like the technical terms. Metal rods, also known as a connecting rod. Turny thing, also known as a crankshaft. Like what novaraptor stated there is any number of thing that could cause a no start problem. More info would be a help.

Thankyou I dont know anything except the noise it made, and the fact it was very hot and the ventilator casing connection had jumped loose and there was a gap above the ventilator that stops the air going around the cylinder properly and cooling it. The sound was pretty specific. it did sound like metal hitting metal, once, powerind down, hitting again, and maybe even clanking around, i had earphones on. i thought a metal thing was bouncing under the bike for a moment. now it just sounds like the candle is dead, no ratting from the kickstarter. I think i have to go and disassemble all of the top of the cylinder and extract the piston. should i check in the drivebelt housey?

sometimes the flow to the dyna flow shaft thrust bearing makes the same type of noise , I have heard of the planatery gears getting worn and making a clickety click sound , but only in reverse .
Ya better open it up and check I hear a giga watt impact gun makes quick work of this be sure to use a gfci .

use a GFCI? ground fault circuit interrupter ? on the impact gun? hm. the planentary gears? i didnt see any in the drive belt area.
I have to find a list of the parts that can fail under intense heat.
I love that scooter i will probably spend 30-40 hours till i find it. It is a 2004 peugoet trekker with rally suspension.
I dunno why it doesnt have a heat sensor near the ventilated metal. The wind was 70kph that day, 45 mph, i hope that cooled the scooter and it was something else.

My stator broke into 1000 parts at the 2300 KM mark. Had to replace both the stator and the cover.

I went to the village where it's at, checked the cylinder... one of the spring clips that holds the piston pin in place jumped out and reacked havoc in the cylinder. It's my fault, because i re-sealed the motor, and i struggled putting in one of the spring clips back, it was very difficult so i made it a tiny bit smaller so i could get it in without 2 needle pliers. The book just said "put the clip back in" not so easy. it lived 18 000 miles. abit brief no? i' m learning. fortunately someone is giving me a spares scooter. here's a pic

That's not too expensive of a fix, but it will require splitting the case for safety. With any luck, the damage is limited to the piston and jug, which can be replaced for around $50. You will need to split the case and clean it out to be certain there are no pieces in there, and inspect everything for damage.
