Buy different ones, try them, and see what you like.

Is that the type that kinda 'wind up' before they hit and let all the energy out at once?

PS - those little 3/8 drive battery powered guns are AWESOME for taking out body screws (time savings) and would probably get most any bolt on a scooter that isn't stripped. Except... the variator and clutch nuts. They are great to have anyway, but make sure you get one with TWO Lithium Ion batteries. There are lots of older ones with Ni-Cad batteries selling for cheap out there. I have the Snap-On version of the one linked I use at work, and I kiss it every time I use it! It almost fits in your pocket, and I'm impressed with what it can do.

If it's a 150cc, you can make a variator holding tool for cheap. If it's a 50cc, you can buy a holder plate for cheap that bolts to the case and holds the teeth on the outer face. I could do the ez-change trick to my 150, but not the 50.

If you are stripping screws with a hand driver, the problem is not from not enough leverage. Usually its the case that the screwdriver you are using is crap, usually because it's the wrong size or tip shape for the screw. There are many different sizes and tip profiles for a phillips driver. I messed up many screws in my carb with cheap screwdrivers, until I went to work and nabbed one of my quality ones. And actually (I am an automotive mechanic) those degree ratchet bit drivers make it harder to hold pressure on a screw 100% strait on while turning it. They are handy for tight spaces, but the shape and size of the phillips bit was your saving grace here.

This scooter is being parted out! It got to 10,000 miles before It started action up so I figure I got its life expectancy out of it!
All parts are 1/2 price what they would cost new, and I do have most of the stock parts for anything I replaced. One keihin knock off carb almost brand new - 0 miles on it and only 2 hours of run time trying to diagnose it. It was not the carb - so I also have another good used carb with 6 or 7k miles on it. They both have 115 jets in them but I can put something else in of you want.
Buy something significant and I will throw in small stuff for free. buy lots of small stuff and I will give to to you cheap. I have many sliders/rollers and 'service' parts like fuel filters and variator slide clips, two EGR valve cover gaskets, a home-made PAIR/EGR block-off plate, I have a few parts carbs too if you want pieces. Also I won't be putting many of the DOT approved LED marker lights on the Reflex - $4 each for those.

Taking a wild guess of how many miles I went with a broken speedo cable, probably around 10,000 miles including what the previous owner put on it (2,000). It was not unusual for me to put 100 miles on it on a Saturday, and I rode it everywhere 11 months out of the year.
I wish i could get it running and into someone else's hands, but I even had my buddy that has worked on many thumper motorcycles come check it out with me and he was at a loss too. There were plenty of things to 'try', we did all the cheap ones, but the rest involved significant work and time. I don't want to risk loosing any more...

50cc GY6's DO have an accelerator pump. 150's do not.

Thanks all! And good luck on your search for something similar OCG! The Reflex you rode may have already had something done with the variator... about how high did it rev in 'low' gear? On mine it just feels like 0-30mph is about like my 150cc was stock. Then it kinda lulls at 30-35 for a moment, but then whhoooo boy! she takes off like something fierce! Cruising around on 45mph roads, I usually forget I have what seems like an extra 1/2 throttle to use!!! And when you twist it she takes off!! I have already put together my variator holder tool - I figure I should do this one the proper way instead of wailing on it with an impact gun. I'm just waiting for a few more paychecks before I buy more parts, so I can pay off the last bit of the purchase price I put on my credit card first! I have a couple slick LED lamps I plan to add, none of which will involve drilling holes in the beautiful body panels like I did the 150... I also switched the dash cluster bulbs from blue to red. Blue light doesn't light up the red markings on the instruments very well, especially since it is 'shine-around' instead of 'shine-through' illumination. The red works great though!

Does the odometer work?
I would just top off my Chinese scoots every 100 miles and 3 bucks was about all it needed. Sometimes I would see it not as full (like when prices go up) but you just have to make a mental note to put in 3.50 or 4 bucks next time. You could even do 150 or 200 miles depending how big your tank is. It is kind of annoying to go back inside for 37 cents change... but once you figure out a system you wont have to do that anymore.

I don't think the intent for most of us cup holder have-ers is to be able to drink while in motion, but to be able to carry an 'open' beverage from point A to point B on the scooter. And to have a sip at long stoplights

Yup - it's worth more in parts than trying to sell it not running. I can't use anything but the tires on my reflex, so it's all for sale. You can see what it looks like and what performance parts are on it in the link in my sig - I'm looking to get half of what anything would cost new, plus shiping. So for example, the $200 NCY CVT kit would be $100 - it's got about 3,000 miles on it but was still all working fine before the motor started acting up. You would get your choice of roller/slider weights with it if I have what you want. I still have the stock parts for anything that got replaced with aftermarket. I do also have various other roller/sliders and a red contra spring for a 150cc, and some rollers and clutch/contra springs for a 50cc (both standard GY6 stuff) I should be stripping it down this weekend, I'd be glad to put up pics of parts you are interested in. Also I am willing to put parts on eBay for your buying security if that concerns you, but the price will go up to cover fees. You don't want any of the body panels, they are all either ugly/broken, have broken tabs, are full of holes from the lights, or a combo of all 4.

More visibility is always better. This. Wire those babies up! If you want to get slick, you can wire them as markers AND to blink alternately with the turn signals.

why no love for cupholders? I put an adjustable spill master Jr on every scooter I've owned kinda hard to see on this one, but it's there and worked great
