The triangular amber lights next to the headlight are wired up and have bulbs in place but the connectors are just hanging under the front cover. The turn signals hang below the handlebar. Wonder why they did that? Maybe i can wire them up and use them as running lights?

The lights on the bars were required by the DOT as the ones you asked about are to low to meet the standard required. You could wire them up if your charging system will support the load...

If I remember correctly it wasn't the height but the WIDTH between the lights that did not conform to the new DOT regs. On my scoot the new turn signal lights are LOWER than the original ones. (located next to the headlight.) I was going to wire them up anyways, but after inspecting them it looked like too much of a pain, besides, I found some high quality mirrors with LED signals mounted on the back, because in my estimation the turn signals as they are won't be seen by other drivers.

My T3 uses them for signals. Weird!

they are amber, so they are originally the directionals. You could probably wire them up either way you want without loading down the system.

More visibility is always better. I vote for running lights.

More visibility is always better. This. Wire those babies up! If you want to get slick, you can wire them as markers AND to blink alternately with the turn signals.

My Adly has something very similar..side lights not connected. Odd part is that they painted the lenses black..so they would not work unless I buy new lenses... Huh? Wonder why they did this..

Probably to keep people from using them as turn signals? Or maybe to blend in better so you wouldn't notice the modification as much.

They are not DOT approved turn signals so instead of putting blank covers in their place they simply painted over them to pass import inspections.

To manufacture or import scooters federal laws apply concerning safety equipment, emissions, vin #,... To get it titled, inspected, licensed and go for a ride, state laws apply. Federal regulations specify turn signal height from ground, distance apart, lens area...... Turn signal lights are permitted but not required in Texas on motorcycles and power assisted bicycles.
