I first bought my scooter used a few weeks ago. The previous owner just had it tuned up and showed me the receipt with all the stuff did to it, like carb clean, oil change, etc.
So, it was idling ok the first few times I rode it, but the past couple days I have to hit the electric start and give it gas anywhere from 3-5 time (when it is the first start of the day) but not a problem after Ive rode it and warmed it up a little, but it still stalls out after less than a minute when Im at traffic stops, but when I see green I push the e-start and give it a little gas and she starts right up.
Also I did not put in gas since I bought it till yesterday, and noticed that the fuel gauge did not change since. Since I bought it, it always showed 2 bars just above E. Yesterday I put $3 (premium unleaded) and got stopped at $2.58.
Any idea what's causing the idling issue, and should I be worried about it? The fuel gauge is more of a worry for me, more than the idling issue being a nuisance. cause I don't want to be wasting time at gas stations and over topping off my gas to get partial refund every time, and also I don't want to run out of gas accidentally.
Also the seat trunk is a real pain to lock and close. Every time I open it, it takes about a minute of messing around just to get it closed properly again. Any advice on that? thanks.

Just re-check the valve clearances. If they are ok, just up the idle a bit.

When you're starting it cold, don't give it gas. By cracking the throttle you're actually giving it air which is counteracting what the choke is trying to do.
If it won't idle indefinitely when warm then something is off. Either too rich or too lean. Will need more info to decide. May also just need the idle speed tweaked up a bit. If the idle is too low they tend to load up (too rich, not enough air).
Electrical and body work problems are more model specific. Will need more info.

Also to get your fuel gauge 'In the Ball Park' calibrate it. Remove sending unit from tank...look in tank to see if it is right around 1/2 full. If it reads empty or just above that when 1/2 full or 3/4 etc... bend the sending unit wire down about 10mm... reinstall in tank and check to see what the gauge reads now. Adjust from there. If you get no change..the sending unit is faulty. But as they said above.. a poor idle is often a sign it needs valve adjustment..especially if it is worse with the engine warm.. Attachments:

Does the odometer work?
I would just top off my Chinese scoots every 100 miles and 3 bucks was about all it needed. Sometimes I would see it not as full (like when prices go up) but you just have to make a mental note to put in 3.50 or 4 bucks next time. You could even do 150 or 200 miles depending how big your tank is. It is kind of annoying to go back inside for 37 cents change... but once you figure out a system you wont have to do that anymore.

You may also just be getting residue coming free from the bike sitting inactive for a long time and starting to clog things up again. Give the bike a few heavy treatments of Berryman's Fuel System Treatment or Seafoam if thats not available to help get past that. Still check the valves and don't adjust the carb until after the fuel treatment has had time to take effect and the valves have been checked and adjusted.
BTW: GY6 scooters do not have an accelerator pump so giving it the gas does not pump any extra fuel into the engine.

50cc GY6's DO have an accelerator pump. 150's do not.

thanks for the replies, and sorry i couldn't give more info. to be honest I don't know anything about scoots. I know a little about fixing up my old honda cars, but that's about it. I'ts not that i'm not willing to learn, just I don't wanna end up stripping it down and I mess with something, then have to get it to a shop.
I took your advice pmatulew, but I couldn't it to turn over kick or electric without a twist of the throttle. I tried about 5 times 2-3 seconds on e-start.
Today however, i put my bike on stand and started her then revved it up just a little and let her idle for about less than 3 minutes. After that I took it out for about an hour and didn't have a single idle issue.
The fuel gauge hand moves around but returns to the same position when the key is in, and that's about all it does. I guess this is something that a shop should handle and not myself for the time being.

50cc GY6's DO have an accelerator pump. 150's do not. That type 1 air valve is sometimes mislabled as a pump on some parts lists.
