The headlight, instrument cluster, battery bucket, and seat all bolt directly to the frame. The entire grotesque bulbous rear end comes off clean, along with the big rear sub-frame that holds it on. It feels almost as light as my 150cc as it is in the first two pics. I REALLY wish it ran, and I wasn't doing this to part it out. But, my roomate is moving out, so there is absolutely now way I am spending more money on scooter parts....!!! I still need to pay off the Reflex parts... Who needs Helix parts??

I have a mostly complete Helix to part out, I'm not shipping any of the big parts but I will match any price on eBay and can list whatever you want on eBay too if you prefer.

She's back! Everything seems fine and dandy. I did have to tweak the supports a little and wound up notching the holes for the lower supports to get some more wiggle room. Overall, the fit isn't any worse than putting my Chinese 150 back together... lol. Before this, that front piece did seem to literally suck itself back in place and line right up for all the holes...

One of the headlight mounts was cracked enough to let the threaded insert spin and pull out when I went to install the low beam. I put a dab of super glue on the knurled parts of the insert, and plan to leave the clamp on. Good as new!

I'm curious how they do as well... I just passed on buying clone headlights because they took China-style bulbs, then you go and post this! lol. The Reflex has only one low & one high beam, but just the low sends an incredible spread of light clear across both sides of the road with a clean cutoff height. Plus the adjusters work. If you are still disappointed with your headlights, there is a pair of Reflex headlamps on eBay for 100 bucks last I looked. (if they fit)

And it's supposed to be a nice 50 degrees this weekend! I got this Honda fairing for $150(it's got one good rash/scuff on an edge and one broken not-critical mount), the fender for $30, and the headlights for $80 (thanks Bandito2) The top center piece and turn signal covers were unbroken and will create a possibly sweet looking two-tone theme. And of course, since this piece is no longer unmolested original, its time to bedazzle! I did a loose-fit after I took it out of the box, it looks like the front fairing stays might not even be bent! rofl... and I remind you the deer was killed on impact. (oops, wrong forum section. can an admin move it for me?)

Like they said, anything you do to try to get more top speed will hurt your acceleration. 40mph is about all your going to get out of a gy6 50cc no matter what you do, trying to get that extra 1 or 2mph isn't worth it. It probably sounds funny at that speed because your rpms are maxed out and it's out of its prime power range. Before you go dumping lots of money into a 50cc, consider getting a 150cc.

People really need to start buying up Reflex's, you can get them for the price of a brand new clone. Don't get me started about how much more incredible they are... I've added 2,000 miles so far to the 7k that were on mine without touching anything but fluids and air. I KILLED A DEER with it and it just needs a new front fairing and headlights.
Rich, sorry you had a bad experience. They usually do a lot better with a PDI, especially done by someone that is familiar with 2-wheel machines like yourself. I guess you got one that had some deeper gremlins in it. If you like how that scooter looked and rode, check out a Reflex or Burgman 400 before you give up on scooters!

So I can get a brand new front fairing from my local dealer in the original Candy Tahitian Blue for $300... still trying to find a clone part in silver (the clone blue won't match). I found a couple place selling them, all out of stock. Still no word from the seller who's I made an offer on (and sent a message)... its been a few days. I worry if I 'buy it now' that it won't ever ship... lol.
In the meantime I will be stripping the Helix down, trying to think about baseball for the duration.

So here's a picture of my front fairing stay on the Reflex (I hit a deer). The two bars look bent at least in and maybe a little twisted right?? Well, here's a picture of a used replacement part. You are looking at it from the back so its a bit off, but those don't look like degree angles, like I assumed they would be. Other images I've found look pretty much the same too. Maybe its not too bent after all...? My buddy says he doesn't see the first sign that the forks or head got stressed. So, I already bought a silver fender and made an offer on a silver front fairing in decent shape. I'm going to use the blue center piece and turn signal covers, it might actually look pretty slick. A member here might have some headlights for me, so hopefully it's just a matter of time now! Oh yeah, and since the front faring is no longer original (the one I'm eyeing isn't perfect either) it won't be a shame to put a borderline tacky amount of extra LED lighting on, like my 150cc...!

Beats me...! It looks easy enough to drop the motor out, but I've never split a case before, and don't have anything as far as bearing pullers. The jug is already off, so I'm already at least to there, lol. We have a few puller devices at work, but they are all automotive types and might not work for what I need to do.
I'm looking for a banged up 250cc to buy cheap for an engine donor, but I need to figure out exactly what clone engine code I need to look for.

Oh yeah, my main question... what is the helix CN250 engine clone called??? I want to eyeball some prices...

Here's a pic of a very well done example of a naked Helix PS - DON'T DO A GOOGLE IMAGE SEARCH FOR NAKED HELIX that is all

... and what to do with the helix!
While I wait another week for my buddy to come inspect the Reflex frorks/frame for stress, I poked around at the helix for a bit. As I went deeper and deeper I found more and more missing nuts/bolts/gaskets and finally no piston! Surprisingly, the excitement that was growing overpowered the disappointment. On a helix, you have immediate access to almost everything you need as soon as you remove the one bolt holding down the seat (it clips into the frame in the back). Also, it looks like you can cleanly unbolt the whole rear sub-frame that holds that horrible bulbous rear end and remove it ALL! This leaves just enough frame to hold the seat and shocks, with plenty of tube to clamp some lights to. If I can get this thing running for cheap enough, I think I want to do a naked scooter, since it's begging for it. It has lots of broken mounts on the rear panels and is missing the grab bars anyway.
So, back to the engine... I saw no evidence of why it was taken apart. The cylinder wall and underside of the valves are surprisingly clean. No obvious damage to the rod and the crank turns over smooth by hand. It seems like most everything is there, minus the piston, gaskets, a lot of the hardware, and probably every small piece that gets removed to get there. A couple things concern me though... It looks like crud got down into the case. When I pulled the jug off, I found a layer of yard debris crud under it and stuck to what I could see. It looked like somebody mowed the grass next to this while the jug was off... Also, whoever took it apart didn't know what they were doing. They got the head off without removing the timing chain tensioner, I guess buy unbolting the cam hold-down. So, who knows what else they screwed up.
A couple other things I know are wrong are that the clutch nut is rounded very badly, the front brake is dragging, and the engine mounts are very sloppy.
So, what would you do? Should I even consider trying to put a top end kit on it since crud got in, or with the chance there is a bad crank bearing or other problem? Should I try to find a good used clone motor? A NEW clone motor?
Say there is a loose budget of 500-1500 bucks - if I sell my truck (which I don't really need) I could get that extra grand. Maybe a bit more with some man-whoring...
The idea in general excites me to no end, but the idea of spending more to get there than the price of a Helix that RUNS does not.
