My mc 54 250b has had an extended engine crank time since it was new. You have to crank it 45- 60 seconds before any fuel gets to the carb. Then it will fire stumble and fart for 10 seconds, then it will idle if you hold the throttle a little open for 30 seconds, then it idles and runs fine.
That is unless you start it daily. Then it cranks in 2 seconds and will idle, take off and ride if you want to. I replaced all the fuel lines, fuel pump (2x) and fuel filter. Has anyone seen this problem. I am afraid I will kill the cheap starter.

My wife's mc-54-250b has a little over 5000k on the clock. I have changed the final drive gear oil no less than 6 times (first time at 5 miles). Every time I drain it there is metallic shining micro specs floating in the oil. Any guess what is wearing?

The best part of this is: Once you fix all the stuff you would assume would be right to start with, they turn into what you thought you bought in the first place. (unless you thought you bought a cheap Honda)

[replyingto=scootnwinn]scootnwinn[/replyingto]I wish they made a throttle that had a "Beyond Wide Open" an 11 so to speak! For those times when "Wide Open" is just not enough.

[replyingto=jr]JR[/replyingto]No matter what you click when you see that screen you just accepted the download. You will have to run your windows repair disk to get your machine back if you do anything other than close your browser.

I would make sure your gas is fresh, add some seafoam and run it hard. I would suspect the fuel pump is weak just because it was junk the day they bolted it on. 25.00 for a pump and replace the filter (it needs both anyway)and you will know it's not that if it it still does it.

[replyingto=peacedawg]peacedawg[/replyingto]Mikuni is your best bet. Electric can work if you can keep the pressure low. Electric will make a cold start start faster esp if it has sat for a week or so. Mikuni is just to easy.

[replyingto=alleyoop]alleyoop[/replyingto]I found my old notes. 250ML or .25 liter. Yes 11 oz will foam and boil out the overflow tube.

I looked and can not find out how much oil to put in the rear wheel gear drive. I forgot and can not find the answer anywhere.

[replyingto=alleyoop]alleyoop[/replyingto]I am glad it did not drop out of place when I pulled the bolt out! The funny part of this story is; I have had a very small (2 drips) oil leak since the bike was new. I never looked for it because it was so small. This was the problem all along. If i had not pulled in behind my wife and noticed the rear tire all slicked up with about 1/2 quart of oil on a 20 mile ride that engine might have been hurting. Thanks for the info and photo.

Well I have logged over 700 miles on the girl now, and I find that I like it more and more every mile I put on it. I hurt my back 30 years ago and all bikes hurt my back... except this one. I love the seat on the old standards because you could side your butt back if it got sore. I hate all cruisers with that saddle type seat that puts you back on your tailbone. It still wants to lull me to sleep because so little is required to ride this thing. It is as smooth as silk and if you do hit a big bump I swear it tries to apologize for bothering you. I find the lean angle surprisingly ample, and has the power to pull you through the twisties. This is a very interesting bike. The tranny is a pain at 35-45 mph unless you shift it into manual. It feels like it is constantly searching for a gear ratio and not finding it. Due to the engine hold back brakes are almost not needed, so I expect someone to rear end me some day. All in all I just might come to love this very unusual bike.

[replyingto=alleyoop]alleyoop[/replyingto]That may be it. I had to remove it to put a new seal on the back of the fastener. It did make me worry a bit not knowing what it was attached to inside the engine. It seemed to go through a rubber block inside the engine and threaded into something behind it. Well it must be OK because she went back on the road and did not act up!
