My MC54-250b developed a large oil leak on Sunday. It was running out of the Transmission cover onto the rear tire. So i get her on the lift and pull off the cover and the variator to find a silver hex head bolt with the thin flat head of the bolt about the size of a dime. It was sealed with a piece of plastic (like an o-ring) and it cracked and failed. I installed a fiber gasket and the oil leak is gone. My question is what does that bolt do for the engine?

Hmm? Sounds like you wanted a motorcycle and got a BIG scooter. A big scooter like the 'Burg is made for comfort and some touring, not burning up the streets like a small scooter. A 650cc scooter? You can sort of see what you're getting just looking at it. There is no perfect bike and if you had twenty you would want 21. I love riding on 2 wheels, I have a serious health issue that will take me off the bike in the future. I decided on the Burg because I figured I could ride that the longest. I hope to get a Bonneville someday to keep her company. Getting old is not easy sometimes.

howdy, i guess my memory is fading cause i would have said the first cb750 i rode in the early 70's would be going throught the top end of 4th at oh-10 grand and over a hundred mph by the time the clutch gets engaged on the burgman. nothing against either, just re-memberances. i rode my cb450 from here to kentucky and down through texas and back via the grand canon in 1973. penny a mile. probably better memories than contemplating doing the same now in my condition. lotsa miles and smiles to ya ken I have a barn fresh 73 CB450 sitting in my barn right now! It starts it moves but has not been on the road for 15 years.

[replyingto=quail]quail[/replyingto]So I have been working on my wife's Roketa, and last night I got it back together and pulled it out for a quick test drive before I bolted on the plastic. WoW! What a cheap bike. The steering is so bad, it like the rake is so far off if you relax you could die. If I could change the caster I would. I forgot how harsh the ride was, even with good shocks and new tires. It made the Burgman experience soooooo much better. I love my wife and she loves the Roketa, this is going to be a good summer.

[replyingto=quail]quail[/replyingto]well I got the rear brake assembly and found out the mounting bracket for the caliper is different than what I have. I was not a problem because the caliper was the same so I just swaped the mounting bracket. The other difference is the pads! My OEM pads has that funny tab on the pads backing plate that sticks out and rest against that caliper mount. The pads on this caliper had inner out outer pads that were the same. I can't see why they won't work just as well. I almost have all the air blead out. I just installed the M/C and caliper. I was not going to tear it down just to replace a hose.

Sorry going to disagree with this assessment on two things, one DO NOT grease sliders, they by their make and design are self lubricating, grease will eventually make them stick and cause shifting problems. ONLY grease the center shaft (boss) and the "U" slides on the variator face plate and then very little on the "U" slides. Two even though 15 gram sliders will change the way your scooter takes off and runs 15g will actually have a slower take off than the 14g rollers, simple equation they are heavier. Also 15g sliders if you run in the hills like I do will lose top end and make the engine drag with reduced RPM. If you are riding on nothing but flat ground then you'll be fine but if you ride like I do in the Ozarks you will hate the results of the heavier 15g sliders. I use 12g sliders from the original 14g rollers some who ride in even higher elevations use as low as 10g. Remember the rule of thumb: Rollers = 500 rpm reduction for every gram heavier you go and 500 rpm add by reducing the weight. Sliders = 350 rpm reduction fro every gram heavier you go and 350 rpm add by reducing weight. Can you still reach 70 MPH with 10 gram sliders? Nice to run into you again JR.

[replyingto=jr]JR[/replyingto]I could not figure out how more weight would give a better low end accel. But I could see how by design sliders could give a better top end. So I order the 15 gram sliders..no that was not the best choice. The tach tells the story, the belt moves into a high ratio to fast. It will work ok for my wife due to her light weight.

So I was working on the scoot today and a memory dropped by to see me. I seem to remember buying a fan off ebay for my sons Toyota, but never had time to install before he wrecked it. So I venture into the barn and to the bike shelf area, and there it was! A gift from God because it used the exact same motor as the OEM! The fan blades are longer and would cool better if there was any way to make it fit. I just swapped out the motors, and it is done. I did measure out the OEM fan and bracket so I can post it. I am sure someone out there will need a fan and maybe someone will see my post and know were the fan can be bought. Thanks for all the help everyone. I have not cruised the boards for a few years and forgot how much fun it can be. TQ

I asked because the old Scootdawg forum had a great cross reference and source list as a thread. I needs to be cleaned up a bit but I would hate to see all that info lost.
