That's a pretty good setup. I wouldn't want to lose that floor space, though; I usually have stuff to carry there. With mine, it's collapsible and it has the grabber arms and the bottom, flat plate holder that both can fold up and it's drilled into the plastic at the front (faring?) so I still have max use of my floor space to carry stuff too big for under the seat (or like mail or something I grab quickly and don't want to stash under the seat; I just put it on the floor and put my heels over it). Overall, though, looks good and I presume it does its job.

I know new shields can be on the expensive side, but have you taken a look around to see what a replacement costs for your model? You might find a surprise sale or an after-market version on the cheap.

I appreciate all the responses. I got the HJC coming. Null, I don't believe that premise of yours. I played four years of high school football and we had two types of helmets; the one I started with just had this hard foam in it with a slick texture and when you hit somebody, you did see stars and lose hearing for a while if it was loud enough. When you put on the a.i.r. helmets, for example, the impact was much softer with no size increase; never saw stars while wearing one of those and never had that ringing pain like I did with the harder ones. I'm just looking for something that 1. will do it's job (most will, so that wasn't a concern) and 2. won't hurt so bad doing it.

After taking a little spill tonight and cracking my head on a hard gravel/packed dirt road, I realized that while my helmet is DOT (which means the company that makes it SAYS it passes DOT standard tests; it's an honor system) approved, it friggin hurt. All it is is a hard, white foam. Here's what I'm looking for and would appreciate your advice: I'll list what I want in order of importance, most to least. Edit: Well I did not get it on the center stand but lifted up the rear and the rear wheel turned, actually pretty quickly, not just doing little jerks around. That made no sense, not only because I adjusted idle properly (wheel not turning when adjusted) but because the RPMs were so low. Does that still point toward vacuum?

Carb is virtually new; use Seafoam, a capful every tank, filter and lines pretty new, like I said. Haven't been able to inspect belt or clutch but something tells me it has to be fuel delivery, because if I'm not even getting the revs, then that limits it to the engine side. I would start thinking autochoke blocking fuel delivery if it only happened at startup, but it happens any time I have to slow down for a stop sign or whatever. Long as I keep it above 10mph, it rolls along. Very odd. Are any vacuum issues speed-specific?

Out of nowhere, I have a problem when I start my scoot and give it gas; I can actually hold it in place while giving it gas; very weak, no rev or very slight rev when handle turned. If I ride it, it goes about 1 or 2mph for ten seconds or so, then suddenly starts to pick up. Anytime I slow down to below 10mph, I have to repeat the process. Outside inspection looks fine; fuel lines/filters pretty new. Would a partially worn belt cause this or any problem at all with the variator ramp? I wouldn't think so but thought I would ask. It seems like a fuel delivery issue; was thinking vacuum issue but why only at the low end?

corrosion X is for waterproofing electronics? It seems like rust preventing or rust removing material not a water proofing. When you can spray and electronic RC control module and then completely submerge it while still using it, I'd say it's pretty dandy at waterproofing.

I think that quoting a speed with wind pushing you or going downhill is silly. Of course, my scooter will go 50 if I had a 20mph wind perfectly pushing me. Has anyone drilled holes in the airbox or replaced the air filter? Some people claim good gains from that. I was personally happy to get the 4mph gain from the rollers. I am not sure if the performance variator will yield me much more beyond that. I live in Chicago in a very urban area. Street speeds limits are technically 30, but most people drive 35-40 when there isn't a lot of traffic. I am just trying to avoid being plowed over. Upper 30s mph would be sufficient. I've drilled holes; no help. Still getting around 33mph tops until wind comes into play. When people tell you they are going over 40mph on one of these things, be extremely skeptical and even if they prove it, understand that they are a rare, miraculous exception to the rule that binds 99.9% of us 50 owners.
