Mine doesn't slow me down, but if it's windy it does feel like some ones grabbed the back of the bike and given it a damn good shake!

My scoot runs the same speed with trunk on or off...no problems at all.

A trunk does not affect speed at all! If anything, it slows you down.
The only time, when a trunk could actually improve speed, is when someone is using it as a back support. Air turbulence goes behind your back, hits the trunk, and goes around the trunk.
If you want to know how much drag you have, pump up a balloon at approx the same size as the trunk, and hold it with one hand behind you while you're riding; and you'll know how much drag it causes.
A balloon is easier to feel wind drag, than a heavy object, because relative to the object's weight, the wind drag is much greater for a balloon than for a trunk; eventhough in real life they both have about the same amount of wind drag.

I noticed that too much weight in a high aft trunk will make you handle worse. K Wayne.

A trunk only improves aerodynamics if a passenger occupies the seat, and uses the trunk as back support. So instead of having a nearly flat back of the passenger, the trunk will even out the turbulence; a bit the same as the difference between a hatchback and a sedan on the highways.
That being said, unless you're constantly going 45MPH or greater, the weight of the trunk will actually make you go slower in the city, than riding without.

howdy, i put the manufacture sponsered trunk on my bv350 and noticed immediately a bit of vibration at speed, like buffeting but regular in timing. i also noticed the operator manual said to restrict speed to 60 mph, if i remember correctly, after mounting the trunk or any other accessory.
it does offer a place to put my helmet out of the rain.
lotsa miles and smiles to ya ken

I can't see a trunk making any significant difference in speed on anything under 50/60 MPH. Seriously, does anyone think that a trunk is gonna slow ya down when you're on a 50cc scoot? Just put the damn thing on, use it as you will, and ride. The drag coefficient ain't gonna make no difference on a 50cc scoot gong 24 MPH

Depending on what you put in there, it might make a difference in acceleration, but not much.
I took it off, because: 1- I don't need it 2- I ride often above 40MPH, and see no reason to have something dangling behind me whatever little wind drag it causes; if it doesn't serve me a positive purpose (like I mounted a windshield, which probably causes more wind drag than the trunk, but it serves a purpose; to keep me relatively dry on a rainy day). 3- It's easier to pick up the scoot with the trunk rack, when the trunk is removed, than when it's mounted.

Depends on the trunk. A 35 liter trunk is usually no wider than the rider so would offer very little drag however a 45 liter trunk that sticks out further past the sides of the riders will have a greater effect. No need for ballons just hold out your hand flat and even at 35 mph you will be able to feel the effect of wind drag.
As for need it keeps my lunch, groceries, tools whatever I need to carry that does not fit under the seat sealed up and out of sight (clean and dry also). Do not like riding with shopping bags hanging from the bag hook flapping about when I am on the interstate either.
Vibration when a top case is installed can be minimized with the use of end weights on the handlebars.
The OEM Givi has been solid even well past 80 mph.
