Well now those Harley Toppers were something else. Lights ran off the magneto so as you slow down the lights go dim. I was really proud of that one until the engine seized at 2500 miles and me 50 miles from home. Later traded it in on a '53 FLE Electroglide,a retired police bike. Sold it so I could buy a car with winter coming. Later we bought a Sprint which was dependable too, but again the head light was weak. And it vibrated badly. Would I buy a Harley scooter? Probably not. I've had such good service out of my Japanese machines it would be hard to switch again

To answer the original question, yes I would buy a Harley Scooter. So people even say Harleys don't leak oil anymore . 1990 was the 50th anniversary of the Sturgis rally ,1/2 million bikes showed up , it was a good year but what blew me away is main street go so slick with oil that every night they sprayed the street with VHT .VHT for those that have never run a car at a drag strip is what they use on the starting line for traction .its like trying to walk on honey , ya right they don't leak . But if I had to ride a Harley there is only one I would ever want to own , google Smitty's rat bike .it is cool and have chatted with him many times as the girlfriend hung more stuff on his bike I always have a good laugh when I read or hear people talking about how all Harleys leak oil. Got to love myths! Lets see, in my life I have owned all kinds of bikes, a BSA, a Triumph, 2 Goldwings, a Kawasaki, a Honda Rebel, 4 Sportsters, 1964 Harley trike, 1993 Springer Soft Tail, a 1986 FLHTC and a 1950 Pan ( the last 2 I still own ), the only ones that leaked oil was one of the Goldwings and the 1950 Pan. Oh wait, the oil leak on the Pan is the chain oiler, does that count? I recently went to a Ride and Show Bike show, no trailer queens, saw many different bikes, including a whole lot of Harleys, not an oil leak anywhere. BTW, I was also at the 50th Sturgis ralley, road with 37 Harleys from Denver to Strugis none leaked oil, was in town most of the weekend, and sure don't remember oil soaked main street.

Yea why buy anything made in America. Or support American products. ? As we pass homeless / jobless people in the streets. Driving our foreign cars , yapping on our Japanese cell phones .while our Country falls to crap.

What are you talking about? The Japanese have many(most) of the Cell Phone made for them in China now.

To be honest I am sorry to chime in this and say it.... You CAN NOT compare a honda, Yamaha to a Harley. The production of this product is a hundred percent more time consuming and the design that has been turning heads since day one. I have watched the bikes come off the line, from Harley to Yamaha to the new Victory's (a blessing to be honest). There is no comparison. Performance wise, any bike that you take care of and do the maintenance on them they will all last and not leak. Every manufacture will have defective parts. I have friends that have had Goldwing's and had a ton of problems since day 1. I can say I have yet to have a friend or family member whom rides Harleys who has ever said this bike is a . Yes you buy a harley for a hot 15k, and you want chrome or other parts, guess what....open the wallet? Is that bad? Not at all, means not everyone can have it and make it stand out, for those whom do.... Just my .02 but seriously you cant compare that 10k yamaha to a Harley

Here's a pic that bridges fifty years, some of which were a little "leaky"...
Loved my Harleys, and love my Kymco...
Most of my Harley experience was with pre-1958 (pre-Electra-Glide) kick-start "Big-Twin 74's" All "Pan-Heads". My 1970 Electra-Glide did not leak... BUT... "Old Blue" my 1957 chopper WOULD deposit the obligatory wee-wee puddle of oil when parked. However, you gotta consider WHY this irritating phenomenon took place "back in the day"...
The old Hog crankshaft turned on ball-bearings, and had no real oil-seals. Being a dry-sump system, the bulk of the oil stayed in the tank under the seat. To keep the oil from exiting the engine while running, the crankshaft had huge reverse Acme threads cut on the ends where they exit the block... These spinning threads "wormed" the oil BACK into the block as it tried to run out... Hmmm... Now THERE was a piece of 1910 engineering that was AMAZING! The old Hogs DID have pressurized oiling, but STILL depended a lot on "slop and splash" lubrication.
It DID work, allowing only about a half-quart of oil to "escape" the engine every 1,000 miles... depending of course, on how many times you parked on the side-stand... LOL! But when the bike was parked on the side-stand, about an ounce of oil would drip from the primary chain-guard as it dripped off the crank, and into the chain-case. That also helped lube the primary chain...
The "puddle" phenomenon with old Harleys actually was usually NOT a true "leak", but a designed-in engineering feature left over from the turn-of-the-century engines. Hey, it WORKED, and NOBODY gave a rat's butt about leaving an oil stain on the ground... Heck, guys would regularly dump their oil in the alley and toss a handful of kitty-litter on it just so they wouldn't slip and fall on their butts, and into the pile of rotting, leaking batteries while walking through the goo. It was a different world, but a mighty enjoyable one! Think I'll go kill some weeds with the remaining black oil from the old Xingyue's final oil-change... LOL!
Modern bikes have probably noticeably cut sales of kitty-litter... LOL!
