I have a 2013 Taotao thunder 50, does the emission control stuff on the bike take away power? If so would it hurt to remove it? Also, this engine performs a lot different than my old scooter that has the same engine in it. This new one barely reaches 35mph my old one will go almost 45 the new one just sounds like it has no guts at all

Global warming isn't happening anytime soon. In the town I live in its almost life threatening to ride a scooter that only runs 25mph most of the time and goes 0- top speed in 10 minutes.

The emissions stuff isn't necessary. It's put on to meet US regulations. The easiest way to get a lil more top end is to upgrade your variator. A taller drive face on the variator will give you a taller gear ration on your drive belt, this will give you more top speed. Also look at playing with your roller weights.
Anything that restricts your engines ability to move air and fuel through it reduces HP. You can get your engine to perform better by removing the stock air box and installing a high flow filter setup and upping the jet size in your carb. You can also look at upgrading your muffler.
I saw your thread on installing a BBK kit, and from what I understand on the 50cc engines if you go too large (100cc) you will drastically shorten the life of your motor.

I have no idea. I tried taking it all off but I saw no increase in performance, so I put it back on.

The EGR is to make sure that the unburned oil/gas vapors return to the airbox to go through the carb again to be burned instead of going into the atmosphere but it is not needed and can be removed and is something I always remove from all my scooters because all that stuff is just a pain and requires the stock airbox to work. so what I do is is remove all those extra hoses and cap off that metal pipe ontop of the valve cover with a custom tab of aluminum that I shape with a bench grinder. but for the best bang for your buck to get your scoot out of the bike lane is this package for $175 if you have 139qmb but if you have a 1p39qmb than make sure you get 69mm valves. premium power pack I bought this for my scooter the exhaust required a little modification but if your mechanically inclined this package will be no problem I have gotten double the power and I am still in the process of breaking it in and still keep up with traffic while i am taking it super easy.

Look at BOTH scoots and tell us the motor each has in them. Those are some big differences in top end speed 1 maybe 35 the other maybe 45. Alleyoop

Alleyoop so alleyoop are you saying 139qmb and 1p39qmbs have a 10 mph difference in top end? I think they put out the same power myself but I think its just a game of luck I have had quite a few scooters and just some are really slow and some are pretty quick no matter what parts you put on it. Just my 2 cents. Had a tao tao one time with a 52mm piston and was just as fast as my stock kymco agility 50cc.

Only way to know is measure the jug. I had one of these "secret 63's", and stock it was crappy. Pulled emissions, upgraded Carb and exhaust, cvt tune, then it was a respectable bike...

There is no way a STOCK 139qmb will do 45mph BRO. Stock De-restricted you might get them to do 35 if your lucky. Even folks that put in a 72cc have a hard time getting them to do REAL 40MPH. Most get them to do near 40 around 38 REAL MPH. So whoever says my Stock 139QMB does over 40 is in LA LA LAND and is just kidding himself. Alleyoop

Alleyoop oooo OK alleyhoop I got you and you are completely right but yea its still on luck I think you can either get a slow one or a quick one but a stock one is no way gonna go 45 mph (unless it's downhill but downhill doesn't count) maybe on the chinometer it says your doing 50 mph but those things are no good after 30 mph even on my brand new 2014 Icebear is off after 30 mph that's why I use my phone instead. But I have seen stock ones do 45 downhill but on flat road is a whole new ball game pretty lucky if your scoot does anything above 35 mph on flat road stock. My stock Icebear would barely break 35 mph on flat be lucky to 20-25 mph uphill but downhill for some reason its super fast downhill legitimately doing 50 mph on a huge downhill incline stock all I had was a blue racing CDI and feels like you could go faster as longer as the hill got steeper so I was happy with buying that scooter new. Although hills still kill me after upgrading everything in the engine except the crankshaft need new transmission now.

The p in the 1p39 means the engine has been modified in one way or another . Also the roller weights may not be the same causing one scoot to run a little higher rpms thus more power and better top end .

I got rid of my cheap Taotao thunder 50, it looked cool and had led lighting but it just plain sucked even downhill I was barely reaching 45. I moved up and got a Honda elite 80
