I Installed a 52mm piston, sleeve, valves, rockers, head, Upgraded the main jet. New Gaskets. Oil pump. Basically just rebuilt the motor. Runs perfect. but.....Its not going over 40.. Any ideas?? Or am I just expecting to much out of a 52mm piston? Thanks Kevin
.....The only thing I can actually think of is that there was no Exhaust gasket on the old head. I installed the new studs and gaskets on the new head. When I first started it.it smoked some. Tuned the carb and it stopped smoking. I was hoping that the gasket would seal once it got hot and. maybe it didnt seal and its not getting the compression that it needs?

I do have a new gear to upgrade too. I just didnt think that it would make a difference. I can pop the front off of the line. I have 8g roller weights too but Im guessing that the ones that are in it are 8g.
Thanks I appreciate it. I will upgrade it tomorrow and have my sister follow me in my truck to test the speed.

I think your weights are to heavy 8g or heavy for a 50cc, go down to around 6g to get more RPMS out of the motor. RPMS is what is going to turn the Variator faster. Right now I bet your RPMS are low and that is where your are loosing speed. Also did you upjet your carbs main jet stock jets on those run around 69 you should be at least in the 70s size on the main jet, maybe even need an 80- main. Alleyoop

I did upgrade the main jet to 80. I will weigh the rollers that are in it tomorrow. I weigh about 210. I dont know what the ratio between weight of the rider and the weight of the rollers/sliders.
Also I was wondering. The spring in the cvt. The big one. Mine is yellow. Is there a color difference in those like the colors in the clutch springs?

Yes the contra spring colors are like the clutch springs. But I have to ask how are the RPMS I think your rpms are low due to the heavy 8g weights. 8g weights on a 50 are heavy and will make the belt climb to fast and you loose a lot of rpms. To tell you most run 4-6 gram weights in the 50s to get the rpms up there. To move weight you need more power to getting your rpms up is what you want to do. That is why I always say if your scoot does not have a tach get one they are not expensive but will save you a lot of time in tuning the scoot whether it be the cvt or carb. A tach will tell you if something is going south or its running good. Alleyoop

I havent installed the 8g weights. I was just thinking that it might have 8g from someone else. Since I have a 52mm piston what cc would that be? and what rpm is the yellow? Sorry for all the questions. I am enjoying having this thing as a project and you guys ( especially alleyoop) are helpful when I hit a wall. lol

The yellow CONTRA springs are rated at 1500, the 52mm probably sits at around 83cc's. Alleyoop

What camshaft do you have? Its it the the "A9" then that's your problem.
7-8 Gram sliders should do you well
I did 7g but noticed a little over rev at wot so I got 8g. Havn't tested them yet though.

Why would a A9 cam be his problem? His problem is NOT ENOUGH RPMS. If he had an A9 cam it would rev really high, so 8g weights are to heavy he is running the belt up to high on the variator and not producing RPMS. Alleyoop

Performance cam? Standard airbox? Check your spark plug. #80 for a 52mm sounds lean. With a 52mm set up u have plenty more to get out of it. Now the fun begins. How much r you willing to put into it to get all you can out of it. Performance exhaust will help also.

If the engine doesn't rev up properly the solution is not to throw more money at it!

I agree with alley , if he is running at lower rpms you will not get the most out of the engine .

OK I have the same set up on mine but I have a hoca head and 150 intake and carb. I went with the 17/49 gears and a 110 main jet. First thing I would do is up jet to a or main jet. Mine was maxing out at 45 Mph before the gear change now I run much smoother. Haven't had a good day to run it Max yet.
