Ok, So.. As most of you know, I have had to fix alot of stuff on my 2013 50cc TaoTao scooter in the last week. Well, today my friend wanted to ride it for a lil bit so I let him, he's a pretty chunky guy. But, he rode it down the road & back & when he got back all seemed fine. So later this afternoon I crunk it up to go for a ride, all was well for about 3 miles then all of a sudden it slowly started to lose power, & it slowly slowed down to the point of being under 10mph. I had to call my girlfriend's brother to come pick me & the scooter up in his truck. Got home, took the cvt cover off & replaced the belt. The scooter will crank up just fine, but when I give it gas, it wont go. The back tire wont even move, & IF it does move, my hand can stop it. What's goin on now??

Make sure the throttle cable is hooked up to the carb and working properly,,how many miles are on the scoot?
I would check the slide and diaphragm in carb make sure its going up/down when you twist throttle,,if so sounds like it could be a fuel delivery problem,,or maybe the gas tank is not venting,,most likely if its idling fine but not revving up at all,the throttle cable or carb linkage is at fault.

Anyone? i'm not up to speed with what has been done so far. i did read in your other thread that you adjusted the valves and then asked how you adjust the timing... if you didn't have it in the correct position when you adjusted the valves then you should start with another valve adjustment first. did you (or can you) post a vid. that would certainly make it easier for others to help you. good luck

The fact that you had a top end bearing failure is worrisome. It may have been a factory defect, but it may also be a symptom of oil starvation and overheating. We'll have rely on your judgement as to what sort of noise you're hearing, (any chance of an audio clip or walk around video?) If there's a chance that the noise is a mid frequency clunking rather than a higher pitch tapping, then maybe the oil problem turned in to a rod knocking. Since your machine is offline anyway it might be worth your while to drop the motor out and pull the rest of the top end to find out what condition the rod and the piston and rings are in. You know, since you're already half way there... i read through some of your old post and found this response. quoting it for all to see as it might be the root of your problem. i don't know how to test if your oil pump is working nor do i know how to change an oil pump. hopefully someone can give you some better info now that it appears your scooter has been running without (or with very little) oil. Ok.. I had to order a new camshaft holder because my other one cracked into pieces. this also leads me to believe your oil pump is failing.

It revs up fine. It just wont go. I took the cvt cover off & checked the belt, it was in 1 piece, no shreds or anything but I decided to replace it just in case. & Still nothing. It revs, but the back tire will not engage, & when it FINALLY starts to move, I can stop it with my hand, even at full throttle.

I always made sure there was oil in it. I even carry a quart with me, just in case. I change the oil regularly as well. I use Rotella T 15w 40 Which is what I was told to use...

It is easy to check the oil pump take the valve cover off if there is oil on the bits it is likely working. Do check the valves again but it sounds like the engine revs but the power doesn't get to the rear wheel. Could be a glazed clutch or other cvt bits. The video I would like to see is one of your cvt open with the engine running and the throttle open while your holding the rear wheel. The slipping bit will be exposed immediately. I assume it revs normally right?

Do check the valves again but... i would follow scootwinn's advice and find out if your valves/chain is coated with oil.

Will know the damage later... *sigh* you're not the only one that gets frustrated with these scoots. besides, if the oil pump is bad, replacing that isn't going to solve the problem. it is likely the problems you're experiencing were caused by a bad pump. hopefully i am wrong, otherwise it could be an expensive repair. is it still under warranty?

sickopsycho.. I swear I wanted to set the damn thing on fire... I even washed, waxed, & tire shined the stupid thing yesterday so it would look all pretty back on the road. Maybe it don't like being all shiny? lol. ramblinman: No, the warranty JUST ran out right before all these problems started happening. Seriously, I believe it was only by a day or 2. That's just my luck though... Hopefully, this mechanic will know what he's doing, he's the only moped mechanic in the area.. & hopefully it won't be too expensive. He said based on our phone call that it sounds like a loss of compression to him & if thats what it is its gonna cost $125.00 to fix that... But, if that was the problem wouldn't the moped not being revving up trying to go?
