My life was "drastically altered" when I was about 8 years old thanks to a drunk driver. My mother who had always been productive and working was the driver and she herniated three discs in her upper back meaning she has to take pain medication for the rest of her life just to be able to move around without tears of pain.
I myself got off lucky and have three bulging discs in my mid back and every day is filled with some pretty bad pain.
We were just driving to get some Wendy's when this old jackass came out of nowhere from behind us, at a stoplight, doing 70mph+ and hit four or five cars behind us. We were the lucky ones... Of the cars behind us, one of the women hit was pregnant.
I certainly hope you all have learned your lessons... And needless to say, I never, ever drink and drive.
I also know two people that have literally killed people while texting. They tell me stories of how they were just texting on their phone and heard a big "bump" but kept on driving, only to come home to the police claiming they had killed a man. And these disgusting Texting-Punks both thought it was just funny, of all things, because they had both killed illegal immigrants. One of them is just acting cool while he is very deeply disturbed by what he's done and hasn't been the same. The other is just completely stupid.
I honestly think we need to bring back that special place called a Gulag specifically for those kinds of people.

i got pulled and given a dui after passing thru a dui checkpoint BOTH WAYS. never swerved or anything, just slight speeding. screwed up my life. drinking and driving is stupid, but i did it a lot when i was younger. only totalled one car that way (cooked the econ tires), and not around anyone else. i wouldnt want to endanger anyone else like that mainly. and i almost got dui after wiping out on a scoot. ambulance driver took my pulse and started demanding to know "what i was on" i was like are you talking about? he said my pulse was sky high and i said "dude i just wiped out and supermanned across the pavement" i was covered in road rash as well "its called adrenaline you idiot" cops then asked me to blow into the intoxalizer RIGHT AS THE ADRENALINE WEARS OFF. i almost passed out trying to blow, they gave me crap etc etc, i was not far from my house so they asked if i had someone to get me and said they had "better come get me quick before they charge me with dui"
duis are stupid but unless someone gets hurt, the punishment is often worse than the crime. (i got a year suspension first offense bc i didnt hire lawyer) here in nc, anyone pulled over at night is treated like possible dui and cops dont care if you are under the limit, they simply charge you and hope it sticks. cop told me if i had a good enough lawyer that "all of this would just go away" ill hold my opinion on that one for language sake...

DUI that results in death does not carry a strong enough punishment IMO as well, but there are so many cases of "dui" that are not DRUNK drivers, but buzzed drivers. IMO most people cant drive well enough sober, and shouldnt even be licensed. those of us that CAN drive can usually handle a few beers and the drive home (which is legal)
i believe we need different levels of drivers licenses with more driver training. i believe most states already have a zero tolerance law for under 21 which i agree with (even tho i dont agree with the drinking age) but thats not good enough. some of us have the skill to drive in most weather conditions, yet there are many who cannot handle a car in the wet or the snow. I think there should be endorsements for weather conditions that you have to take tests and prove you can handle them. no one around here would try to take their drivers test in the rain, yet many still need to get around in the rain so why not make sure people can handle those adverse weather conditions?
I think that drivers with 5 years of driving experience and no accidents should have a higher allowable BAC than a 21 year old that just got their license a year before and already totalled two cars.... but also higher punishment for any accident especially resulting in injury. That sort of system would allow people to be more responsible for themselves, while being more restrictive on those who APPARENTLY NEED IT

in my 20's and 30's, I had the sincere beleif that i could handle a car, or bike or boat drunk much better than most people sober can.(and i was probably right because i had a lot of experience at it.)BUT now that i am older and wizer i realize that was the most stupid attitude anyone could have!!! Only by the grace of God, am I still alive and have claimed no victims.Don't be mislead by the "i am young"...I am superman... it won't happen to me attitude. It takes but a split second to ruin or end life. DON'T DRINK and DRIVE! Grow up and grow old.

Too true. There's a good song about that:
~I am a baby in my universe. I'll live forever. Ooooo, I'm only twenty two. I'll live forever. Ooooo, I'm only twenty two. I'll live forever Forever...~

I think Mr. Rollins had more apt prose to speak about this subject.
By the way buzzed drivers are often more dangerous than totally hammered ones...

That 100 years song is pretty touching. I'm not so good with posting mainstream ones. xP
Black Flag! Love that song. I got a Black Flag T-shirt and got to see some Black Flag members play with Rise Against at last year's Riot Fest in Chicago. T'was awesome.

I remember the day's when, if you brake the law and found Guilty. You pay your debt to society and go on with your life. Now a day's they want you to pay for the rest of your Life. If you murder some one or molest a child.I Personally fill you should, drinking or not. Dave

I agree with Leo. We ALL make mistakes.
Me, I thought cutting the corner without slowing down was fun, 'cause that's what my brother did. Except I hadn't seen the oncoming car that was hidden by the houses. Swerved back over and ended up car on its right side in the ditch.
I have never driven after drinking more than part of a bottle of hard lemonade for several hours. Then again, I never have seen the point of drinking until drunk, or even buzzed. I can have just as much fun drinking regular lemonade.
Dom', keep easy in jail. And please honey, stop driving after you've had alcohol. Please. You're a vital part of this forum and I'd hate to lose you.
