The clutch springs only control when the pads get kicked out into the bell by centrifugal force engaging the clutch,,heavier springs means higher RPM before you start rolling,,lighter,,lower rpm to roll from a stop.
Now the contra spring or whatever its called that sits behind the clutch controls how fast the pulley in the back opens to allow the belt to ride deeper(toward high gear) in the pulley.Stiffer contra means higher RPM before shifting to high gear,,lighter contra means lower rpm to shift into high gear.
I'm no pro but the contra and rear pulley are the same principal as the variator,,just work backwards and use a spring instead of rollers/sliders. The variator squeezes the belt and the rear pulley pulls away from the belt allowing it to drop deeper through the pulley.
Correct me if I wrong,,cause i am here to learn as well...

Here you go Jersey, 61bbk, bought a 30mm carb would not put out slapped in a 28mm carb and created a Beast. Now that is a bad to the bone motor. Alleyoop Man I hope mine runs close to that when its all broke in,,pretty snappy for spinning a CVT and wheel..imagine if they had neutral,,they would really be snappy I should get a 28mm carb it would match my intake better,,right now my intake is bigger than my carb...

Well what you see in my signature below works pretty darn well so far...lol
Even a stock motor with free flow exhaust,CDI,COIL,UNI POD,up jetted to 115-118 on the main or so is and probably will be the best performance upgrade you can ever do besides a BBK imo.Mine ran like a banshee like that for years!

What we should do is race them also..but I dont see that happening,,plus none of us weigh the same,,Im 170lbs.
I should have some numbers this summer as i plan on messing around with a bigger carb and different jetting and weights,,Im getting a cheap gopro cam clone to snap to my helmet and I have a GPS,,will do the tests on the same road, same condition. Will be like 0-30,,0-45,,and zero to 60mph tests,,we will see what happens..the bigger carb might exel in the higher RPM's while the smaller one lower to mid...who knows???
Geh,,what are your RPM,s at WOT from 20mph to high gear? Mine are about 6.5K or there about,,pulling hard,,then after the CVT is in high gear it starts climbing R's from there.
I dont like running mine higher than 6K but thats me,I cruise between 5-6K,,people have ran them 7-7.5K for many miles from what I read...
Stay tuned...well its gonna be a while with this weather.

The big question is why are you guys with big carbs running lower weight rollers and sliders,,thats the one that has me scatchin my head My scooter is strong on bottom end through midrange below 7K RPM with 12-13g..maybe the lack of vacuum and whatever else is happening is causing the bottom to mid to be effected? I have no idea but just saying,,I need to get one and test myself...

30 didn't work, 28 did, bigger is not always better. Have we finally cleared that up? I found that out going up one size on the pilot jet last week,,the GY6 sat there blowing out black smoke at an idle,,like somebody had the choke pulled shut.....horrible..so I still run my stock 38 I believe it is....

Parked for winter. Did about 5000 miles last year...hope to do more this year. I can see why you are parked with over 2ft of that white crap laying around,,not to mention frigid temps and all those marbles out there....lol Im pretty much in the same boat man,,itching really bad to ride,,especially with a new BBK sitting on my scoot...lol..ARGHHHH

I have even known the good cops to go on power trips at times....depends what mood they are in. Also depends how good you know them. They all get moody.

Well like I said,, I am going to get a big carb this spring and mess around,,they are cheap enough so if it doesn't live up to its expectations I will just sell it or keep it for parts.
It should work good on my setup,,60mm with big port head and big intake..we shall see,,but its close to zero out there now.

There must have been something wrong with the variator Geh,,Im using a stock one and anything under 12g is screaming,,I would use 12g on the track if i was racing,,and I'm not even sure if they would push the variator all the way closed.
I have a set of 14g rollers I want to try soon as it warms up a bit,,the 13g sliders have been in there all last season,,they are good but I think a hair to heavy...they work great for cruising,,out of the hole they are a little sluggish but not bad.
I am going to get one of those cheap GoPro cams and make some videos this Summer...stick it right on my helmet,,or off the scoot.
Take care..

Yup,, Im self taught too,,started at 18 now Im 44..lol..played in a few cover bands,,was even a drummer back in the 's for one.. As long as you have a good clean filter on it,fresh fuel, and a good flow at the carb when cranked the system should be fine,,also the tank vent need to be clear.

Well checkin back in,, At the beginning of this thread i said I would draw the line after exhaust, cdi, coil, and jet kit,,but now at 4100km(2547 miles) I installed a 60mm BBK with A10 cam and big port head,,so we shall see how she runs all Summer,,cant wait to get back in the scoot of things man!!

That might explain why I thought my exhaust valve was totally closed at first.. Also, and I hope I'm not the only one admitting this, but i keep hearing that "ticking" is good but "tapping" is bad... I am sure everyone's definition of each is different so where on earth do I find an example showing the CORRECT difference between each? If i knew what a click sounded like compared to a tick I could listen and adjust properly.. I play the guitar so I have good tonal skills. Not to derail a thread but... I play guitar too,,welcome to the gang and ROCK ON!!!!

I think % of all these problems people are having with bogging and hesitation has to do with the corn fuel we are using. That stuff sits for a few weeks and starts to get nasty. I would do a full fuel system flush from tank to carb before I tried anything else,,especially if the scoot was sitting. Good luck!!
