Fawkes has 6772.9 Miles, and one upgrade, one complete rebuild, and a new engine on the way, so i can rebuild the original engine again... These are hard driven miles, and well beyond even the rebuild and upgrade limits of the engine ...
I have ridden Fawkes every where from Ohio, Fort Wayne, Fulton, Camden, Logansport, Lafayette, Monticello, to Delphi, all year and all weather driving.

And women say chivalry is dead ( Dripping Sarcasm, and disgust ).. Seeing this video no wonder they think so... My Goodness, All the riders should have stopped to render aid to that women.. I em shocked, man or women makes no difference, you see a rider go down in front of you for any reason what so ever, IMHO it is your moral obligation to stop and render whatever aid you can.. Period, I don't give a crap about the legal stuff, it's the right thing to do..... There is no justification for leaving a fellow rider down.. NONE

Well Raccoon jumping aside, I'm reserving judgement until I see him.. Kent is an experienced rider, been riding for many years. And my first though when I heard of it was, "Why didn't he roll over it ? " But apparently he didn't and landed in the hospital.. My only thought as to why he didn't roll over the raccoon is that he couldn't with 10 Inch tires, I was not there so much of this is speculation I admit..
I road 10 inch tires for a long while with Fawkes, and I know how unforgiving they can be with pot holes, and other minor road obstructions.. Kent really is a good guy, and I'm waiting for his return... Also he's of the best parts crib attendant we have...

Hi Ive had scoots with 10 12 and 13 inch wheels and tires also motor cycles with 17 inch and larger Smaller wheels and tires are more agile and make the scoot more nimble, largerwheels and tires are more stable and give a smoother ride www.scooterfocus.com/scooter_wheel_size.htmlI like and ride them all Take care and ride safely Yours Hank Very Nice article Hank, thank you for posting that, well off to work i go, on second shift now every one have a good day..

What size tire do you need to run over a raccoon? Bigger wheels and tires can make a difference but who knows if the raccoon riding issue was the tire or improper raccoon jumping. I have been running 10" wheels now and don't know that there is a crazy difference at speed. I travel the same road as I did with 2 other scooters, one with 12's and one with 13's. All in all it is nearly the same. Theoretically a taller tire with more mass will be less likely to fall over at speed but this also means it is not as maneuverable as a smaller tire. I have ridden bikes with all sorts of different sizes and though they ride differently I think the real safety issue is not knowing how to deal with the performance of your particular tire/wheel size. I hit a Husky with my the scooter that had 12" wheels on it and didn't go down. Was it the wheels that saved me?? I don't think so... I can't say i know all the details of this accident as he has not returned to work yet, only what ive been told what happened.. He's suppose to return soon and ill know more.. But personally I like the bigger tires.. especially on the front...

Ironic that Larry and I were just talking about this in the other thread... With bigger tires also means lower rpms to reach the same speed... bigger surface area so less chance of slippage... and like Larry said, you can drive over bigger obstacles. Yea i saw this thread when we were discussing it, was hoping he saw our thread... But i decided to answer his question just to be safe...

Hello Longterm, I guess the best way to explain it is to tell you of a co worker of mine... he rides a Honda Elite with 10 inch tires.. One day going to work, ( as I'm told ) he hit a raccoon, his tires did not roll over the raccoon and sent him over the handle bars as the bike flipped. This was three months ago, and he's still off work.. There are many hazards we face on the road. Bigger tires deal with these hazards better than smaller ones..

Ohhh I will, when I'm done the long case will be the stroker with the 85cc kit, and the short case will be a decked out 83cc. Just have a few steps in getting there..

I can imagine what it was like with these small tires. There's a sunk in manhole on the way to the store where I live, and a few times I've had to jump off my bike and back on it when forgetting to avoid it. China must have the most perfect roads in the world, where speed limits don't matter, because it seems like that's what these tires were designed for. Luckily I don't really have much of an issue with that sunk in manhole or the speedbumps and pot holes anymore. Ever since switching to Pirelli. Did you switch your rim? Or did you somehow manage to just put a different sized tire on your stock rim? I'm intrigued and would love have a somewhat accurate speedometer. I don't know whether it's cheaper to get new calipers, rims, brakes, etc. or to just go with a digital dashboard If you only changed the tire then I'll definitely be trying that out when my Pirellis get worn out. Yes I had a 12 tire and rim from scrappy for a while and tried it on Fawkes, but that didn't work very well without making some mods I didn't want to do.. The Pirelli SL 26 120/90j-10 fits right on the stock 10 inch rim.. No mods necessary, for the front, Fawkes has a short case engine (for the moment, Long Case on the way ), so there's no room to put this tire on the back wheel as it hits the engine, Now when the long case arrives, Ill be test fitting this tire on the back as well.. Not sure yet if it will clear the airbox and shock.. will see...

Yea mine was off like that too, I think the Chinese make one speedo puck, the one down on your front tire hub, and I'm thinking it's calibrated for a 13 or 12 inch tire.. We had many discussions on this on the old scootdawg forum, and many other scooterist that know a lot more than me actually figured this out mathematically..
After hitting 60 mph ( ground timed run, Time and distance calculation ) Fawkes was just outright dangerous to ride.. Any pothole could have sent me over the handle bars.. This seemed to be a good fix... The other benefit was in better handling in wet and slick conditions.. So yea it corrected my speedo, and made Fawkes much safer to drive..
But while I'm thinking of it, the only downside is the larger tire also increased my front brakes effectiveness, so be careful about that..

Hi lykos23 One way I corrected my speedo was to put a larger front tire on my scoot, I put on a Pirelli SL 26 120/90j-10... May not be possible for everyone to do (depends on your front end setup). But my scooter's speedo was always 10 to 15 mph optimistic, this tire brought me to about 3 to 5 mph optimistic.
One other side benefit of the larger tire was pot holes were a lot easier, and far less dangerous to roll over, especially at higher speeds...

Back when i was 16, I had a 1969 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme broken into. Glove box contents scattered every where, even out side as they didn't even bother to close the passenger door, I never locked this car before and was very trusting of my fellow man, so this was a wake up call for me, anyway called police made out a report.. Didn't see anything missing at the time.
A little while later, I was driving to a friends house and looked where my rear view mirror used to be, and it was not there. Needless to say the lesson I learned is if it can be stolen it will be, unless you lock it up.. No exceptions, it's a shame as my parents always taught me if it's not yours leave it alone unless specifically told otherwise by the owner... To bad others don't care if it's theirs or not..

Well I had a brief discussion with one of these haters a while back, I admit I was not in a good mood that day, and was a little harsh to him as he was the one smarting off about my scooter. I simply told him road rash is road rash regardless of what your riding, and I face the same dangers as he does, and a few more dangers that he don't, because of my lower displacement engine, and that regardless he had no right to tell me what i like or want to ride.. An hour later he came back and apologized.
