... Now that I think about it I really don't need to be able to go on the freeway. So what's a good cheap 150cc? If you can double the cash, a Lance PCH150 -- MSRP $2,199, 151cc so it is freeway legal in any State.
Otherwise, reliable and legal trumps make/model. Depending on where you are, a 149cc scooter is freeway legal. Freeway legal and capable does not mean comfortable. I am comfortable on the Freeways and Interstates on my LX150, 63 mph in still air on the level. I am comfortable going up the Grapevine with the semis doing 45-50 mph.

Last year I as at Del Amo, looking at used scooters, I noticed that the tags admit that (1) a Honda Elite was made in China and a (2) Piaggio Fly was also made in China.
There is "Chinese" and "Cheap Chinese Crap." There are those on this forum who know the difference.

...Scooter in front of a ball field. This is a soccer pitch. Olympian Field -- has both soccer net and football goal posts!
I realized I had messed up my first picture, in a baseball field -- I was on the field, no in front.
...
New Tag: Cheap Insurance -- they advertise car insurance for just $15 a month. I got this one doing a by-pass shooting with my video camera:

... What do you think, too ostentatious, or can I pull it off? No such thing as being "too ostentatious." My Vespa has the light tan leather seat, black is stupid in Los Angeles. (Las Vegas is a suburb of L.A..) Get some yellow marine grade vinyl, maybe even continue the flaming on it, and I would take a ride to go see it.

Christmas Day! Oh dang! Needed milk, rode to Ralph's. Might have "forgotten it" yesterday since I knew we would be hitting 81 degrees.
Even met one of my ex-peers / friends -- he was in his AT&T van, working.

... Have any of you guys started out with the Chinese scooter, and then upgraded to a better faster scooter? I started with a brand new 1964 Honda CA110 "Sport 50." Later a Twinjet 100cc 2-cylinder 2-stroke, a DT175, a GS450E, a 500cc Silverwing in GB, '86 Honda Relex (street legal trials bike) and a Suzuki 652cc Savage. My first scooter is my a new Vespa LX150 in Oct.2012. My "Upgrade" was from a + mph 652cc cruiser to a 64 mph 150.5cc Vespa. Why I like this forum is that no one thinks anything is "better" -- just different.

Well, if you insist on a motorcycle. Have you considered scooters like the Burgman executive? Even my 500cc TMAX is good for 300 to 400 miles a day with the Air Hawk cushion on the seat. But then, I guess it does depend on what you call long distance. I went touring on my 652cc cruiser doing over 500 miles a day. On an overnight ride under a full moon I did 350 miles on my LX150. People get big cruisers because 1000 miles in 24 hours is easy.

I am retired, I knew what I wanted, I knew I would be keeping it for many years. So I got a Vespa. I wanted light weight, I wanted to ride on the Interstates, so I got a new 2012 LX150 i.e.. Have done 7,500 miles in 14 months, about 2,000 of those miles on the freeways/Interstates.

You don't think you are the first one to make a simple error do you?.... My personal best was in the late '60's -- I shut down all U.S. Military communications between the Middle Asia and Europe, for 4 seconds.

FYI, my ex-, a 380 pound +mph Suzuki 652cc Savage, a cruiser motorcycle, gave me 50 mpg having too much fun on the city, 60-65 mpg doing 65-70 mph on the Interstate, 70+ mpg across the Mojave at 50-55 mph. If you consider becoming a Rocker instead of a Mod.

... a 150cc for commute ... 45 miles round trip ... 45 -50 mph ... wot almost the whole way ... gas mileage and top speed on the 150s My Miles
I would expect any 125-150 class scooter can top 55+ mph; will not be WOT at 45-50. Whatever. My Vespa:
On 8 June 2013, over the Grapevine riding WOT on Interstate 5, I only got 61 mpg. Since I was expecting 65+ mpg I ran out of gas about 3 miles short of my planned gas stop. 16-20 September 2013 on a trip to the Sierras, again over the Grapevine, I got 65 mpg by holding a hair under WOT. The rest of the trip I averaged about 75 mpg, mostly holding to 60 mph instead my 65 mph top. Same 65-80 mpg on a Full Moon Ride in 22-23 June.
Overall, in 7K+ miles in 14 months, I have averaged over 67mpg, with about 25% of the miles being on the freeways. In my humble opinion, a 150cc class scooter will work just fine -- anywhere.

Western boots means no laces. I don't like laces. On Caterpillar's site they have 72 styles of men's boots: www.catfootwear.com/US/en/Mens-BootI cannot use them -- they only have narrow and normal ("D" and "EE"); I wear an 8 EEEE, altho' I can squeeze on a 8.5 or 9 EEE.Since I sold the 652cc Thumper and now ride a 150.46cc Vespa, I put the Justin Boots away and now ride wearing Florsheim Penny Loafers. As for the people at the biker-bar -- ask if they are willing to ride a 150 on the Interstates.
