I'm planning now for my next scooter. I've pretty much narrowed it down to a Phoenix/Pacifica 150cc with 16" wheels. I want the wheels for both the looks and the smoother ride. I like solid black, but it's not the best color choice when living with Vegas's damaging sun, so I'm thinking of different paint schemes. I've always wanted a flaming bike, but I'm not sure just how over-the-top something like this would be. I'm imagining a lightening bolt on the sides of the front fairing with little offshots of electric bolts wrapping around the front. At the point the fairing becomes the floorboard, the lightening will produce flames which travel back along the floorboard, then up the body, and perhaps along the exhaust pipe cover as well. Here's a quick mock-up of the flames, I haven't added a lightening bolt yet because I'm just not that great with lightening effects in GIMP. What do you think, to ostentatious, or can I pull it off?

What do you think, to ostentatious, or can I pull it off? Okay, maybe in KC it would be ostentatious. But in LV? I sort of think it'll be right at home. Plus if you can pull it off like the picture you created, it's gonna' look majorly awesome! So here's a vote for DO IT!! >'Kat

Go ahead and do it. It's going to be your bike after all. You should see what the fools at moped army do to their bikes.

... What do you think, too ostentatious, or can I pull it off? No such thing as being "too ostentatious." My Vespa has the light tan leather seat, black is stupid in Los Angeles. (Las Vegas is a suburb of L.A..) Get some yellow marine grade vinyl, maybe even continue the flaming on it, and I would take a ride to go see it.

Get some yellow marine grade vinyl, maybe even continue the flaming on it, and I would take a ride to go see it. For the seat, I was thinking billowing clouds of dark smoke with undertones from the flames on the lowest portions, as if the flames are lighting up the smoke. You can see on the edge of the fairing the perfect lightening bolt design leading down to the beginning of the flames, I'm sure some LED diffusion strips hooked up to the turn signals will look pretty cool at night, especially if I can get them bright enough. A few red/yellow LEDs under the bike should finish the fire effect in darkness. I don't think I can afford custom wheels with flames for spokes, but that would really be the icing on the cake! Here's the design with the exhaust cover done, they make high temp red and yellow paint, so I should be able to do the pipe as well. Working on the seat design now. Is it just me, or would you agree a scooter model named Phoenix is the perfect one for flames?

I don't have the talent myself, but I know just the part of town to go to where I'll find someone who does! In Vegas, there's some pretty sweet talent went it comes to automotive painting, and I'm sure I'll find someone who can do the job the way I envision it. It's definitely not going to be until late spring or summer, but I will post pics!

You can also get a vinyl wrap like many wild looking cars have . It is easier to print graphics on vinyl compared to expensive air brushing . I have seen many company vehicles wrapped to attract attention to the company logos .
I have thought about putting on some Rhino or other brand of vinyl coating like used inside of a truck bed . It used to only come in black but they added a few colors a few years ago . I have seen quite a few Jeeps have it applied over the paint and underneath to protect it from getting scratched .
Harbor Freight has an airbrush kit for little money . I would surely practice using it before I would spray my scooter . Plastikote and Krylon both make a paint that is primarily suited for plastics instead of a universal type of paint .

I could use plastic bags to create a template to measure, transfer that to GIMP and overlay my flames appropriately. I know of a couple of online companies that allow you to create graphics that fit a template for standard motocross body parts, and they print and send you the wrap. Perhaps I can find one that will work off a custom template. Thanks for the tips!

Personally, I'm more intrigued by those 16" rims. They just look... RIGHT. (Though the flame job does look pretty bad-@rse too! )

I have 16 inch wheels on my Tomos Twister 50 and love them. Gives a great ride (especially in spring of the year when all the winter potholes appear).*S*

Yeah, the 16" wheels are what got my attention in the first place. My Znen Q has 10", and I feel every bump and sewer cover I go over. The 16" 150cc scoots (there are a half dozen or so models I know of) mostly use a Znen engine variant that does require a few special parts, but Scrappy carries most of them, so I'm not too worried.
