as some of you may know i put a 100cc bbk on my scoot 2 days ago. rode to the store yesterday and it seemed like it was running rich so i didn't take the time to do a plug chop since i needed to get to work soon. drove it 6 miles to work and got there with little problem. still wasn't running right but i figured i would solve the problem when i got home. well about a mile into my trip home i hear a very loud screech that sounded like metal on metal. at that very moment i lost power and figured i just messed up my new cylinder and piston. perhaps i was running lean and didn't understand the signs. so mad at myself for not doing a plug chop i pushed it 5 miles home. took a nap and then started tearing the engine apart. hoping i didn't damage it too badly and was just going to put the old piston back in so i could get to work later tonight. once i got the piston exposed i didn't notice any damage. so now i am worried i may have messed up the crankshaft. i rotate the engine and i can hear something clucking around. upon closer inspection i realize it is coming from under the cvt cover. take the cover off and my little plastic variator fan is shredded. the nut is loose... i failed to put thread locker on the last time i had it off and obviously didn't torque to spec. guess i am riding my bicycle to work tonight. hopefully the local shop here has one, don't want to wait for delivery. lesson learned.

You don't think you are the first one to make a simple error do you?
Be happy it was not an expensive repair, you didn't do so bad. You took it all apart and put it back together again and it ran, that proves you are capable of some serious repair work on your scooter.

You don't think you are the first one to make a simple error do you?.... My personal best was in the late '60's -- I shut down all U.S. Military communications between the Middle Asia and Europe, for 4 seconds.

5 blades are still intact out of 12. do you think i could get away with riding it 6 miles to work in that condition? worst case scenario it gets too hot and i shred a belt, correct?

This time of year you can get by on short trips with that fan in the lower temps. However, do not push it, replace it ASAP!
