DX I've noticed more states trending towards consumption tax rather than income tax... this is surprisingly a move in the right direction. If it were up to me there wouldn't be any income tax, there wasn't until around 100 years ago and even then it was a couple % on the wealthiest of Americans. Flat rate consumption taxes simplify everybody's lives, from the vender to the consumer to the government. No more corporate loopholes or evading taxes with cash sales or cooked books. The online marketplace is becoming such a large chunk of our economy that some sort of unified tax code for it is an absolute necessity...

I've had similar experience in NC. You don't need a license, registration, or insurance for 50cc or electric scooters or mopeds but the statute claims they are not to exceed 30 MPH. I've ridden past the black and white many a times at 40-45 MPH without incident yet. They're considering adding registration and/or insurance requirement for 50cc... mostly just to racket money but liability insurance wouldn't be a bad idea. My policy was $97 for 12 months for my scooter. But then I would argue that all those guys riding bicycles at 10-15 MPH on main roads are more of a hazard than anybody to traffic and cause SOOO many bad accidents (usually resulting in the death/disability of the cyclist potentially at a cost to the state).

Interesting stuff, I'm definitely curious but then I'm like wellllll if I'm getting a motorcycle again, why not go 250, spend a few more here and there... etc. You'll definitely want to get new sprockets, I bet that thing is geared pretty short. I love your planned setup to use 3rd as a "driving" gear and 4th as an overdrive "cruising" gear. My favorite automotive tweak I ever did was get the 5th gear from an Accord pressed into my Prelude transmission, rocket through gears around town and still cruise at no more than 3k RPM going like 75-80

When will she arrive, prodigit? If I havn't already bought something by then and your assessment goes well, I would consider this bike. My only two concerns seem to align with yours, the "auto-clutch" and the thin tires.

I figured the warranty probably only applied to the original owner but the fact that it even has one says it all! So from the warranty date I can infer it's about a year and a half old and it says it has 900 mi on it... windshield and top box included, dealer derestricted. There's a '13 w/ 3k mi listed for $2000... no thanks, a local dealer has a new Rambler 110 on clearance for $1800 (plus taxes and fees and what not). But starting to get out of my price range comfort zone at $2000 and the 50cc would be plenty adequate for me.

I heard that Edmonton, AB had the hottest high temperature of any major city in the U.S. or Canada on Monday. The jetstream patterns the last few years have been severely funky, partly from ocean currents but mainly the warmer temps in the Arctic changing air flow.... giving rise to systems like Superstorm Sandy. "Thanks to a high-pressure system aloft and brisk southerly winds ahead of a cold front, the city of Edmonton in western Canada reached a record high temperature of degrees on Monday. This was warmer than Miami ( degrees) and Phoenix (87 degrees)!" www.wunderground.com/news/weather-wow-canada-warmer-miami-phoenix-20130507

Ehhhh gettin there, price is certainly right and I'm intrigued, but having had "the real deal" I'm really hesitant to get a motorcycle with less than a 250, taking it on the highway was like my favorite part of my Ninja. I would probably prefer manual shifting over 2-stroke if it came down to that though. Does a 4-spd water cooled EFI 150cc exist in any form anywhere in the world? Would fit my bill perfectly hahaha.

Actually something I was going to mention earlier is that the kicker for me for a 100+ CC would be if it was EFI, I'd really enjoy an EFI bike. The E-Charm would be my dream but they're getting so hard to find...

I really like that Stella. Reallllyyy like it. I'm going to keep an eye out over the next week or two for something like that maybe a tad closer to home but I've been kinda looking at buying a motorcycle or larger scooter pretty much since February. If we can get more than but a day or two w/o rain here I'll be a lot more encouraged to pull that trigger!!!

From what I understand Nitrogen filled tires provide more consistent inflation (less sensitive to changes in road surface and ambient temperature/pressure). IMO a properly filled and maintained tire with "regular" air does just as well in all but the most extreme conditions....
Anybody seriously tryina go 60 on a 50cc frame... jeez godspeed. I used to think it wasn't a big deal to push these scoots but I had some scary wobble at around 50 MPH a few weeks ago and will never again push it like that...

That Vespa would be SWEET!!! Price is right, I might just have to come on out to CO now haha. I found an '05 PX150 2T 4-spd manual for $2500 here... I'd actually love the manual shifting, but for that money I'd probably be giving up my car.
