So I've been riding my 83cc BBK scooter for a while now that riding season weather has (somewhat) returned. I've been ecstatic with the improvement in acceleration off the line but without upgrading more parts or further tuning have not seen the increase in top speed or hill climbing at/near full speed that I had hoped for. So now I'm looking at a new scooter entirely, I'm not afraid to bite the financial bullet to tag & insure a 100-150cc but how comparable would a newer 2-stroke 50cc be? I don't expect to and don't need to exceed 50 MPH but a little more punch would be perfect. Thanks for any insight!

Go for the 2t i have had both and the 2t is the superior in power,speed and all around power.My 2t has beat all 125 and 150 scooter matched agaisnt it and When my vento was all stock it would do any bbk 50cc 4t scooter.they are harder to tune, but much simpler to work on

You see, the above is not really true.
Sure his tuned 49cc 2t might beat a lot of stock 150cc 4 stroke scooters, but I'm absolutely sure, that it will not be that much better than a tuned 150cc 4 stroke.
I would go with a 150cc 4 stroke scooter.
Higher reliability, better MPG, no oil mixing, and many 150's can go 60+MPH.
They don't have to be expensive. You can get a good 150 for $900 delivered at your doorstep.
I'd probably recommend the TaoTao PX150. It's a beast, ~70MPG, ~65MPH; that thanks to being lightweight, and nimble too; and a lot easier than the EVO150 to work on.
The advantages of a 50cc 2 stroke may be that in your state you may not need a motorcycle endorsement to ride it,
and it's easier in maintenance.

No not a 50cc 2t mine are 70cc and 90cc against the 150, the stock 50cc 2t i had would beat any 72 and  cc 4t but it always takes double the cc of a 4t to equel a 2t.In most dirt bike class 450 4t race agaisnt 250 2t . But the oil isn't that much of a inconvenience like everyone states its easier for me to fill my oil once a month then it is to change the oil on a 4t every other month |

Yep automatic oilers make it a breeze. It's not a chainsaw or lawn equipment.

Yeah it's oil injection so it's not like you have to pre-mix, that would be a pain. and yeah you can get 70 or 90cc BBK, and they're balls to the wall, but the reason I want a new scooter is so I don't have to screw around with it all the time. I'm not necessary concerned about the additional licensing/registration requirements of the 100+ CC b/c I already have a motorcycle endorsement and insurance... but I love how I don't have to mess with that with my 50. But I might get hassled whizzing around at 45+ MPH on a 2-stroke w/o a tag.
I'm looking at a Genuine Roughhouse, there is a gently used 50cc one for $1500 near me. "Bumper-to-bumper" warranty and roadside assistance valid thru Sept-13. A brand new one is not MUCH more but 1500 is stretching my price range and giving up one of my cars as it is...

More power is a concern and maintenance is starting to become a concern, I've developed back problems this year so I'd much rather pay to have something that lasts & doesn't need much tinkering.

That Vespa would be SWEET!!! Price is right, I might just have to come on out to CO now haha. I found an '05 PX150 2T 4-spd manual for $2500 here... I'd actually love the manual shifting, but for that money I'd probably be giving up my car.

2T all the way . Mine was stock I kept up with a 150 Peace VIP . Since a BBK and pipe I out ran a buddy on the same 150 and was so funny to hear him yell " Nooooooo " as I left him in my dust

I really like that Stella. Reallllyyy like it. I'm going to keep an eye out over the next week or two for something like that maybe a tad closer to home but I've been kinda looking at buying a motorcycle or larger scooter pretty much since February. If we can get more than but a day or two w/o rain here I'll be a lot more encouraged to pull that trigger!!!
