Hahaha good point good point. I'm getting a ride to pick her up tmrw or Monday (I drove my cage up there to look at it b/c there were storms in the area and I'm a wimp). Full coverage to come whenever I'm not too busy riding all day ;D
And wouldn't you know, the other TGB guy just e-mailed me back an hour ago. Shooooottt for just ~$600 I'm sssooo tempted but that would be my 4th scooter in my garage! Already have 3 cars!!! Need to get some of these suckers outta here this week...

Thanks Hank, I believe I somewhat remember seeing your/her Derbi last year up on the old forum. I'm really excited and will be racking up the miles & smiles The guy with the like-new '09 TGB emailed me back not but an hour or two after I got home from putting money down on the Derbi. Figures. I think I like this scooter better, though. The TGB looks cooler but I feel MUCH better about a liquid cooled bike, because I like to push them pretty hard and every once in a while take a pretty long ride. The Derbi also has a better exhaust on it.

Never heard back about either of the TGB's, would have loved the opportunity to buy one but I met up and test rode the Derbi today. It's a peppy little guy, I wasn't blown away by the speed but it has a very solid feel and rides extremely well on the 13" wheels and dual disc brakes. I think with some tuning and maybe a couple parts it has serious potential. Sporty well-built 2-strokes are really hard to find, I had no hesitation to pull the trigger on it for $1400. I've got to get a ride up there to pick it up, we're shooting for Monday at latest. Can't wait ;D

Got a call back within 10 minutes on an older '04 Derbi GP1 liquid-cooled. Price could use some work but if it's in great shape I just might swing it. Going to go take a look at it this afternoon. With that kind of low mileage, the guy did confirm it sat for a while a few years ago but he has been riding it regularly lately. Just had the oil injection pump replaced not too long ago. raleigh.craigslist.org/mcy/3798490879.html

Interesting, I don't usually give much thought to the color of my vehicles actually. My Ninja 500 was silver, which I had always heard (along with white) was considered about the "safest" color for CARS. But I had a lady pull out and t-bone me at low speed on it, she claims she looked but didnt see (or hear 500cc's downshifting?!?!) me... honestly I gathered she was distracted and would have pulled out even if I was in an 18-wheeler though. Never had a problem on my orange Tao Tao (other than cagers occasionally being intentional a$$hats)
I've never owned a red car because they supposedly get ticketed for speeding the most, partially credible to basic physics - something about how the eye differentiates light waves and that the frequency of red light waves appear to be moving faster when in motion towards you (or something along those lines, I think blue is the opposite effect).
Regardless, I think the newer red one might be a better deal overall as long as it hadn't sat unused for too long and deteriorated something. I actually read of someone having their odometer reset on one of these exact scooters, so the 108mi may not be actual. Plus it sounds like I have a better shot at meeting up and buying that one, the other one will likely sell ( / sold) fast at that price. The seller of the red scooter stated openness to negotiation on the price as well.
I'll just have to see how it plays out. Next week is shaping up to finally be dry, warm, and sunny weather so I'm eager to find and ride away with the scooter of my dreams in time ;D (but I know better than to rush into a large purchase/investment)

Yup, I was like hey, local buyer, cash in hand, very interested, call me anytime at 123-456-7890, etc. I understand some people are skiddish about publishing their # on the Internet but I do it everytime when I sell on CL now and I almost always get it sold in a day or two and don't even bother to check any of the e-mail responses...

I can speak to some of that, regarding air flow. On my 50cc scooter I was able to gain some performance by drilling holes in the stock muffler and air box and tuning the carb accordingly. However, one day I accidentally knocked out the airbox restrictor (little plastic piece with 4 holes that covers the inlet tube) and my scooter would startup and idle OK but would bog and stall with any serious throttle applied. It was just vastly too much air and left it starved for fuel. Intake / vacuum leaks don't seem to be as big of a deal on these carburetted engines, with EFI it's a problem if it's beyond the MAF b/c unmetered air will throw off the computer's parameters. It's just harder to get consistent performance with intake leaks. But to answer your original question, I drilled a very small hole in my intake box and saw performance gains, but it's easy to introduce too much air and cause problems. It will also change the vacuum properties inside the manifold of how the engine breathes which affects performance. You want it all to flow properly which requires some amount of restriction.

I'd be ecstatic with either one, but damn people not putting their # on the ad, emails sent & fingers crossed. It's tough b/c there really isn't a lot of selection outside of these in my area for used... % are Tao Tao's, which are OK I mean I've had two already but I'm ready to upgrade, particularly to 2T... but not quite ready to drop $2000+ on anything crazy.

Awesome, great suggestion! I might be chasing coat tails on this one BUT there is an '09 model of the same scooter with only 138 miles on it (?? 1!!!! ) for about twice the price that I'm trying to get a hold of too. Kinda skeptical about stuff that seems like it just "sat around" though. I love the "sport tuned" feel and the larger wheels with dual disc brakes particularly on this scooter. greensboro.craigslist.org/mcy/3786656644.html

I've been searching a pretty wide variety of different bikes for a while now, really all winter but mainly just the last few days. I decided I want a 50cc 2-stroke for the cost savings and all the great testimonies I've heard from my fellow dawgs here about their 2T's. I found this TGB R50X locally for a very reasonable price, has a lot of recent work done but maybe a couple minor issues (keeping the price low!). From what research I've done, TGB stands for Taiwan Golden Bee so we're talking about a Taiwanese bike not a Chinese one. Also I found it employs a Morini motor, don't know much about that other than it's not Minarelli. raleigh.craigslist.org/mcy/3742527210.htmlAny and all insight / advice would be much appreciated dawgs!

Did you use one or two base gaskets? I had the same problem regardless of CDI or fuel grade on pretty much an identical setup, tore it back down and put 2 new base gaskets in there and shes good to go.
