Hey y'all, I recently had an 83cc bbk installed on my bike, upjetted to and hooked up an orange racing cdi and ignition coil. Everything has been running well and I have been super-pleased with my upgrade until I noticed that around 42mph (on the speedometer) near full throttle the bike will "miss" continuing propulsion for appox .5 sec. This causes the scooter to pitch forward a bit (as if I had completely released the throttle and then re-revved it) then resume at the throttle level I am using. Not really sure why it is doing this, especially with the new unrestricted cdi, but it is a bit unnerving to have that happen at that speed and I now am keeping it under that. Any ideas as to why this could be happening? thanks.

Try the stock CDI and see if it does it with it . I used a MJ with my BBK

Sorry, should have said that - I've swapped the old one back in but it still does the same thing.

Stock carb ? If so replace it with one that is not sealed and has a needle clip

Did you use one or two base gaskets? I had the same problem regardless of CDI or fuel grade on pretty much an identical setup, tore it back down and put 2 new base gaskets in there and shes good to go.

It'd think you're actually pinging (the cdi is detonating too early). At higher speeds it might actually detonate before the cylinder is at it's top position, in which case that could be the case. Either that, or the carb bowl gets sucked empty of fuel faster than the line provides the fuel, which is not what I think happens).

Are you running the airbox or open air filter?

I'm havin this same problem after I installed my 83bbk. I've tried up jetting to 98-made it worse, plug was black. Down jetted to 92 better but still there, plugs perfect color. Someone told me that I should move the clip on the needle. And see what happens. Don't think it's pinging cuz u can clearly hear that, it's just like its to lean or just ran out of fuel and then got some. It's a steady rythm so to speak.
Somewhat of a hollow sound comes out of the exhaust when the power cuts out

It could be a misbalance between the idle jet, and the main jet. I think your bike is still running rich, but the idle jet is running lean. Causing you to have a perfect plug color. I'd suggest to take a step down on the main jet, and increase the idle jet by a step; and adjust the idle screw a bit lower, to level out the bigger idle jet.

It's got a 38 idle in it currently, think it needs to be larger for an 83cc?
