You'll know when you max out your gearing when the RPM's continue to rise with the speed, doesn't matter how heavy your rollers are. I can push my 50mm BBK Tao Tao pretty fast but the engine is screaming. I use a much larger MJ, I think mine's 92 or and I don't even have a particularly good exhaust or carb.

$200 sounds reasonable to me, for what it's worth I recently sold a really old Chinese 50cc scooter that was pretty much just the frame and a running motor (missing most other parts but would start and rev fine) for $100. Before that I sold my '12 Tao Tao 50cc in like-new condition for $500 3 months / 3k KM after buying it new for $700. I may have gotten lucky on that last one but honestly it was in better shape than new with all the replacement parts and tuning!!!

On my Derbi GP1 50cc 2T i just bought, the exhaust is definitely the bottleneck as far as performance/restriction. I'm hoping to successfully mangle mine into a derestricted stock-ish looking pipe this weekend as an aftermarket one is quite expensive for this scooter!

dang that's kinda cool actually, I guess that means you've got some serious compression/combustion going on!

Thanks Hank, That's a great recommendation, I planned on giving her a full service not knowing the full history. This looks like a great product, I really like to use biodegradable & non-toxic solutions whenever possible. Only the best for my little Derbi now

Not much poppin' here in the sub-200cc liquid cooled section, but that's aight I can change that now Picked up and have been riding my '04 Derbi GP1 50cc 2 stroke I just bought this morning. It's a blast, it still needs some fine tuning to get it to it's full potential, but once you see what I'm upgrading from... jeez hahaha. I'm a rare breed indeed now, I probably should have posted this over in the 2T section, don't know what the official ruling would be on preferencing liquid cooled vs 2 stroke, guess it depends on the topic!

Unfortunately they're probably right, my only qualm with Chinese scoots is long-term ownership, nobody will likely pay more to get away from them for a short ride or even an entire day. So from a business perspective that is probably the way to go. I know it'll be a PITA to keep them all running tip top, but you'll leave yourself a lot of room for that. And in my experience usually they develop nagging issues overtime, it's somewhat rare for them to abruptly wind up dead in their tracks (while a customer is out with one).

I was really skeptical it'd make much or any of a difference, but an Orange CDI was included with the "power pack" BBK set I bought for my older 50cc Chinese scooter. Not sure what difference it would have made on the stock motor, but with the 83cc BBK, free flowing intake, and somewhat less restricted exhaust, WOW! Maybe there is a fuel or ignition problem otherwise but it sounds better, wants to go, will top out a good 5 MPH faster with the orange CDI. It could be running rich because it sounds kinda boggy with the stock CDI, maybe it is old and weak and any brand new replacement would provide a better discharge. Thoughts?

I don't bother to wave to the pretentious "weekend warriors" here in Cary on motorcycles (as they'll never acknowledge a scooter) but occasionally, especially around downtown or NCSU campus, a sport bike rider will throw me some love. Aside from VW Beetle owners, where do you ever find that kind of respect and affection for complete strangers on the road?
Not sure what exactly you're trying to get at, but I don't think being a rider necessarily defines you as a person. At the same time, there are people who love and embrace it as part (or all!!!) of their life and others who kinda "just do it"... you know?

We bought a Honda Civic Hybrid a couple years ago that had some problems, paid $7000, as stated on the Bill of Sale and the Tennessee Transfer of Title also includes purchase price (probably for their taxes). Our state said we had to pay Highway Use Tax on FMV of $14,900. I think not North Carolina, we appealed their assessment with several quotes for repairs (at a Stealership to get the highest estimate possible!!!) and won. Nearly $200 in tax savings... whew. The main reason I just have 50cc class bikes is because they require absolutely no DMV interaction or fees whatsoever.

Not yet, but I did have the spark plug somehow work it's way loose and fall out (still attached to the boot) at a stop light on a scooter with 900 km on it.

The only new 100-150cc 2-stroke I found when I was looking was the Genuine Rattler 110. A local dealer here was offering one for like $700 off MSRP, I think $1800 (plus taxes and fees and good stuff of that nature). genuinescooters.com/rattler.html
