Thanks bandito2, I didn't remember who or where I had read your account. Another 60+ miles today in the Ohio hills and back roads further convinces me that was the right choice. I used to get 40,000 plus on my Geo Metro tires and find it hard to believe they will do very much less on the Reflex.

I took another 50 mile ride today through the hill country of eastern Ohio, very twisty and hilly. I'm just an old guy cruising and most of the miles were 35 to 45 stuff. One stretch of major highway at 60 MPH. At this point I am completely satisfied with the tire. Do I recommend it to others--no, it has to be their decision. As the miles run up I will report again.

I am running a tire experiment on my Reflex. I thought this might be of interest to others. When I bought the Reflex they put a Bridgestone tire on the back (the front was still useable). It lasted 'til I got back from my trip in 2013 to Arkie land. That was about 7000 total miles on the rear tire. At that point I bought a pair of Shinko tires and changed both. (Unlike the clones the Reflex runs 120/70/13 in front and 130/ 70/12 in the rear). The rear Shinko was gone in 4000 (front is still good for quite a while yet). While we were near Riverside CA I ran over to Chaparral Motor Sports and picked up a Michelin Booper, that lasted 4000. Next I bought another Shinko (different series) and at 1250 miles is was going fast, I could have probably safely run it another 500 miles or so. Somewhere I saw a post by someone who reported that he and some friends has run a 145R12 auto tire on the rear with good results. That is the size used on the early Geo Metros (really great cars). They are hard to find but I located one on line and ordered it. Since we were in PA visiting our son and will be here longer than we are in many places I went ahead and installed that tire so if it was unsatisfactory I could get something else and change again. I have put more than 300 miles on it and so far really like it. I was unsure how it would handle on hard corners but so far I can see no difference on that. It is about 10% more circumference so it makes that much difference and slows the engine down considerable which is great for cruising. I have been riding through the hills of PA and eastern OH pushing it hard on corners to be sure the all weather tread pattern is going to hold when leaning hard. Dry road, wet road, and during hard rain plus 50 miles of 70 MPH interstate. I like it plus it seems to have raised my gas mileage noticeably. As the miles mount up I will post updates here on this thread. I don't know of any other brand or model that this could be done on.

PS: The tires on my Jonway YY250T was about the same. 2000 on original and 4000 on subsequent rear tires.

I get from 62 to 72 mpg with my Reflex. I'm just an old guy riding around the countryside and into town for grub. I have over 32,000 miles, very trouble free miles.

Well now those Harley Toppers were something else. Lights ran off the magneto so as you slow down the lights go dim. I was really proud of that one until the engine seized at 2500 miles and me 50 miles from home. Later traded it in on a '53 FLE Electroglide,a retired police bike. Sold it so I could buy a car with winter coming. Later we bought a Sprint which was dependable too, but again the head light was weak. And it vibrated badly. Would I buy a Harley scooter? Probably not. I've had such good service out of my Japanese machines it would be hard to switch again

Yes that is a beautiful part of the country. We are full time RVers and license our vehicles there--lot cheaper. Last time we were there I rode my Reflex through the hills (which were "alive with the sound of"--Harleys.) Just now we are in north central AR and with all of the rain they have been getting it is a green jungle, and the winding roads---AHHHHH.

Yep, I now have over 31,000 and going strong. I am tempted to sell it and get a good clean Silverwing since I do so much long distance road riding. I disagree about the K & N filter. I use one and the plug color is perfect.

I'd vote for a used Honda over a new clone any day, I made the mistake of getting a Jonway YY250T and had troubles from the start. At 10,600 it quit, needed a complete rebuild. I replaces it with a used Reflex with 15,250 miles on it. I now have over 31,000 and all it has ever needed is oil change and tires. Also have a much stronger electrical system for those added lights you speak of. Skyrider Oh, yes, I did have to change the variator recently. One of the roller was installed backwards and wore the guide. And I put in a new belt while in there. Original looks like new but I already had a new one and I went ahead and installed it.

When I did that on a Honda years ago the chain came with no master link so I used a chain breaker and removed one link from each chain, used a master link to hook them together, rotated the crank til the new chain was in place. Then removed the old chain and hooked the new chain with the master link. In that case all I had to remove was the valve cover. Worked perfectly and never a minutes trouble in all the time we had that bike.

I think there is a common misconception about Reflex engines. I realize some think that the 244 cc verticle engine used in Reflex clones is a copy of the Reflex engines. All Reflex 2001 - 2007 are 249 cc Honda engines that are near horizontal. The little access panel on all Reflex and Reflex clones in front of the left side passenger foot peg is there for easy access to the spark plug on the Reflex. The clones use the 244 vertical engine from the Helix and that access panel gives you access to--nothing. See page 1-34 of this on line service manual for the 2001 - 07 Reflex. www.jr-richscooterdoc.com/Honda-NSS250-Reflex-2001-07.pdfSkyrider
