Bought a 2002 reflex a couple of months ago. Awesome shape although it had about 30.5k miles. Changed fuel filter, spark plug, ran sea foam, new air filter. Tire pressure is correct. Runs like a charm. very quiet. changed the oil once and then another week or two. Starts right up. does not miss at all. Idle speed is about 1,400 rpm. I weigh about 260lbs. No other cargo. I commute about 4 miles to work and 4 miles back. and yes a lot of start and stopping at lights. No kmod and all stock.
Could this be the cause of getting around 44 to 45 mpg ? I would think it would do a bit better. What an I missing?

Your mpg is well under what it should be, I have the 300 version of your bike and while mine is fuel injected and yours is carbureted I'm getting 74 mpg overall and 65mpg on the highway at 65 to 70 mph. I would look at two things right off ,at 30k mi. you might need carburetor rebuild or just buy a new one, the other thing I would do is to check the valves , it sounds like you have a lot of gas going out the tail pipe. When you changed the plug , what did it look like. What does the new one look like now after you've run it for a while. Dan.

I get from 62 to 72 mpg with my Reflex. I'm just an old guy riding around the countryside and into town for grub. I have over 32,000 miles, very trouble free miles.

it might be time to do CVT inspection as well. Make sure all the wights are in good shape and put in a new belt. These items can effect milage as well. Make sure you don't have a brake dragging.
It should be doing 60 plus mpg... My 250 clone (helix clone engine) on surface roads, got about 65 and 70 mpg

I would be concerned too if I got that low mpg. I am about 160 lbs. but I get 68 mpg on average. The lowest I have ever gotten is 62 mpg. My Reflex has 29K miles on it so I am not far behind you. I would check all the fuel lines to make sure you don't have a slow leak.
That happened on my old Yamaha 125 when the hose to the fuel filter got hard and developed a tiny leak. The fuel evaporated quickly enough so I never saw any on the garage floor but I knew something was wrong because the 125 could get 92 mpg and it suddenly got worse.

It could also be the carburator "choke" which is called a bystarter. If it is not working properly, it stays on and injects extra fuel into your system all the time. Best of luck.

How much wear is on the piston rings? Also, I just got done with a valve replacement (OEM Honda)it wasn't all that difficult.

One huge part of the mpg equation is the air filter $20 says it's the original,,,and I agree with what's been said 60-70 mpg should be expected
