The plate and 9 screws are titanium so I assume that it will set off the metal detectors

SylvreKat,
Please feel free to give me all the advice you want as I can use it. I am work right now (eating my lunch in my office). Luckily I am sales manager and I usually just sit at my desk and talk to my customer on the phone or via e-mail so I don't have to walk around that much. Also since I fell on the ice at work, everything is paid for by workman's comp. so that is one less thing I have to worry about. I will look into the cream...this sounds like it might work well for me. I am down to 4 of the Extra Strength Tylenols per day.

SylvreKat,
I have both Percocet and Vicaden that the doctors prescribed for me. I am slowly weaning myself off of these as I plan on going back to work on Monday and I can't drive while on them. They are also highly addictive so I want to get off of them ASAP. I am right now mostly taking over the counter Extra Strength Tylenol and it is working well. The mornings are the worse. When I get out of bed all of the blood rush to my ankle and its hurts like .

Update: The surgery went very well however the surgeon discovered that the damage was rather extensive. While there was no ligament damage, the bone (fibula) was not only broken but splintered as well. They decided to go with a metal rod instead of a plate. I am at home resting comfortably (thanks to some good pain meds). I am scheduled to see the doctors on Monday for my post op check up. I assume the stitches will come out at this time. Thanks for all the well wishes !!!

Sorry that I haven't replied sooner. I have been rather busy visiting the orthopedic surgeons office. The end result is that I will be having surgery this coming Monday to install a metal plate and screws. They will also be repairing the torn ligaments as well. The surgeon said that the gap between the bones is just too big and it would take about 4 months to heal on it's own. With the surgery he said that he could have me walking again in 3 to 4 weeks. So surgery it is. Thanks for all the well wishes.

thanks FlyAngler...the doctor's office just called me and bumped my appointment up to tomorrow instead of Wednesday, so I will find out tomorrow morning if surgery is the next step. I will allow them to operate today if it meant healing faster and getting rid of this constant throbbing in my ankle.

Well I won't be riding my scooter any time soon. Not that I would be anyway with all the snow we recently got. I drove to work this past Thursday, stepped out of my car and started to walk towards the front of the building. I slipped on some ice that I didn't see, fell down and snapped my fibula bone in half as well as damaging all of the ligaments. I am in a boot with crutches right now and I go to the orthopedic surgeon this Wednesday to see if I need surgery. So far all of the other doctors that have seen me are in the opinion that surgery is needed because the gap between the broken is too wide to properly heal on it's own. Needless to say, this will make for an interesting Christmas for me. Luckily I am already finished my gift shopping.

urbanmadness,
According to the link you provided this process can be used on parts that get real hot as they show a picture of car engine parts that were dipped. If you go ahead and decide to do this, please let me know as I will be one of your first customers. I would to have the heat shield on my exhaust dipped in the carbon fiber. Please keep me in mind.

Q: What do you call a scooter or motorcycle rider who doesn't wear a helmet?
A: An organ donor
Seriously though...there is an ongoing rumor / feeling here in Pennsylvania that the reason that the state repealed the helmet law is because they were running out of organ donors. I don't know if there is any truth to this, but it sure does make you think.

Just out of curiosity I once tried riding my scooter around my development without my helmet and I honestly hated it. I was so used to wearing the helmet that I felt too vulnerable without it. My full- face helmet (BELL) has air vents on the top of the head and near the mouth that you can slide open if things start to get too stuffy. They work really well.
I once got beaned in the head by golf ball as I was riding past a golf course near my house. I can only imagine how that would have felt if I wasn't wearing a helmet.
I am 44 years old so I am past the point of worrying if my helmet makes me look cool or not.
