I love riding without a helmet. I feel the breeze, feel and breathe the cool fresh air. I have only ridden without a helmet a few times, mostly 3 blocks down to the mini-mart and back. I usually however feel naked and unsafe when I don't wear shoes, but i feel a lot more freedom without a helmet. The helmet I bought is a Bell Evo Revolver and is suppose to get decent air flow, but at a stop light It gets a little stuffy. its so big and bulky too, I thought it looked cool and was well made, but when I got it, it looked more round than most oval shaped helmets and looks too big on my head. The helmet is getting very irritating especially when a part of my head is itchy. When I put it on when im not on the bike yet I feel like im suffocating and feel very slightly that its cutting off blood circulation on my head. I know its for my safety and always wear it on long rides..ugh, just rather not wear it now. I think I know now why a lot of people wear half helmets, but i dont like the look.

And my 2¢--both times I've gone down, my helmet got scraped up. Glad it wasn't my jaw 'cause I prefer my skin (and muscle, and tendons, and etc) where God put them rather than spread on a road. I also don't really want the scar-face look on me.
Both times were at stupid-low speeds. Both times were well within three blocks of home.
Besides that I feel better with the helmet on. Yes, it's warm at stops, but I just lift the visor 'til the light turns green. But then, I feel "naked and unsafe" without ALL my gear on--helmet, gloves, jacket, pants, boots. And I really don't give a rat how I look in my helmet and gear. I'm betting I look PROTECTED, that's what I think. Meanwhile that guy over there who rides in a muscle shirt and no gloves? I'm not thinking he looks cool, that's for sure. Ditto that gal with no helmet on our main street. Hm, slow speed but lots of traffic, and unprotected head. Not cool either.
Here's an idea--check out a modular helmet. I know, you just got that Bell, so it'll stink to pay for another so soon. But you might feel less suffocated in a flip-up. And you can raise the front at stoplights. And be protected. And who knows, maybe you'll even think you look cool if that really matters to you.

Btb, check out my avatar pic. Yes, that's my riding jacket I'm wearing. I wanted to send a pic to my friend of me on my bike. I sat on it and just felt really odd 'til I went and got my jacket. Ah, that was better. Only reason I didn't put on gloves too was I needed to handle the controls on my camera. It's your body, and your head. And it's your choice. My choice for my body and head is safety over looking cool and "feel...suffocating" any day. It'd be different if the helmet really was suffocating, rather than you just feeling so. But then, that's why there's hundreds of different styles. Me, I'd keep looking and trying on 'til I found one that felt better. I also don't have the mindset that a helmet is confining and suffocating and limits my freedom. >'Kat

If you get complacent to the point where you don't wear it for that 1 1/2 block ride to 7-11, what else are you getting complacent about? It's not just protection for going down, it's also a mindset.
Get a full face, and lift the visor at traffic lights... Noting worse then getting a bug splatting in your face at 45 or 50. You will get to the point where it just don't feel right to ride it without a helmet, to the point of it being uncomfortable. I'm that way with my gloves too. It could be 110 out, and I still wear them. I am lacking in the jacket department right now, but that's gonna change. I have good cold weather gear, I mean, I'm warm, but it doesn't offer the protection I should have as it's not armored.

Just out of curiosity I once tried riding my scooter around my development without my helmet and I honestly hated it. I was so used to wearing the helmet that I felt too vulnerable without it. My full- face helmet (BELL) has air vents on the top of the head and near the mouth that you can slide open if things start to get too stuffy. They work really well.
I once got beaned in the head by golf ball as I was riding past a golf course near my house. I can only imagine how that would have felt if I wasn't wearing a helmet.
I am 44 years old so I am past the point of worrying if my helmet makes me look cool or not.

I ride a helmet only because of the law. For being legal, I have a 24 ounce Daytona half helmet, the smallest and lightest I could find. I am uncomfortable on a helmet, because the weight slightly slows my head, which means I look around just a bit less, and I have a greater risk of being into a collision.
Wearing a helmet means you don't have to worry about dropping your head on the ground. Without a helmet you are not allowed to fall, and is less fun. Those who wear helmets tell me I will crash, they have. I don't wear a helmet and I haven't crashed. They say "not yet." After 49 years I and tired of waiting for the crash.
Whatever! Ride Your Own Ride. If you want to ride naked, do so. Don't ask others to ride like you ride. Ignore those who demand they you must ride the same as they ride.

I used to be in the no helmet camp, rode motorcycles throughout the 80's & 's without, until I got hit three times by cars in three years riding my electric bicycle. Luckily no injuries beyond some scrapes, but that was dumb luck and at speeds below 20mph. Once I got my scooter, I rode for a week with no helmet, and did not feel safe (getting older gives you perspective). I purchased a modular helmet, so I can flip up the front at stop lights if I'm feeling stuffy, and take a drink easier as well. It's a bit large, but I like the functionality, and got it for $100 at Cycle Gear.

Gotta tell ya I don't give a rats behind if you do or don't wear a lid. If it hits the fan and you die so be it. If you end up a veg then its your family and friends who suffer. Very thoughtful of you.
I've always wondered why the need to tell us.

Carry enough insurance so you don't become a burden to the taxpayers and enough disability/life insurance to take care of your family.

... If you end up a veg then its your family and friends who suffer.... I am 67, I have an ER of 25%, I have heart disease, I had a stroke. IF I have an accident that a helmet would have saved my head, my body will be mangled and I will be dead anyhow. I am NOT worried about having an accident on the scooter. Statistically www.census.gov/compendia/statab/2012/tables/12s0121.pdf I have a 36% chance of death by malignant neoplasms 30% chance of death by cerebrovascular diseases 7.4% chance of death by chronic lower respiratory diseases 1.4% chance of death by pneumonia 0.76% chance of death by motor vehicle accidents 0.67% chance of death by falls 0.63% chance of death by suicide. Riding the scooter decreases my death by heart attack or stroke far less than the chance of having a vehicle collision. Less if I have to wear a helmet.

For me riding without a helmet makes about as much sense as blow drying your hair in the shower.

I love wearing my full face all black helmet. It doesnt look stupid at all. It's plain and not too flashy looking. Stuff always seems to either get in my eyes or face without one.
For all the people out there that may laugh or think it's silly looking, there are surely just as many people who think it's idiotic not to wear one. I don't really care what Jr High and High schoolers think anyway.
