Chinese scooters really aren't as terrible as they use to be from what i have heard and seen. i just sold a tao tao atm50 with about 15,000km and still going strong. as long as you don't mind doing a little maintenance then they can be reliable.
with that said their is definitely better quality out their for your price range if you don't mind buying used. someone just recently posted a link to a craigslist ad for a kymco agility 2013 for $650. think they go for about $1,600 new so good deals are out there, just keep looking. Kymco's are great scooters from what i have heard.

Now, anyone have any suggestions on how to get this new carburetor adjusted. I thought I would set the adjustment screws like the existing carb as a starting point. Any suggestions on technique much appreciated. It looks like there are only 2 adjustments, idle speed and fuel ratio, or are there other hidden adjustments? only other thing you can adjust is the needle assuming your carb came with an adjustable one. other than that you can change the idle and main jet if needed but that requires buying new parts so hopefully the jets it came with work out for you. this is a good vid. if you still have trouble tuning your carb look for alleyoop's 'how to" threads.

i had a few tiny pieces of metal stuck to the drain plug on the first couple oil changes of my new 150cc. same thing when i installed BBK on my old atm50 so i assumed it was from the piston rings and figured it was normal. who knows where the pieces you have found came from after 5000 miles?
parts wear out... so what, ride it until you notice change in performance. i would.

Speedo info

wish mine was accurate. the only speed sign around here is in a 35mph zone and my speedo clocks in at 44mph while the sign flashes 35mph. i'd like to find out where the needle rests at an actual 45mph but don't want to risk a ticket for that info. lol

There is a chap who insists that using an impact wrench does no harm however the guys who have partially stripped crank and drive shaft ends from his work won't agree anymore. The last bike I saw damaged was Piaggio powered and it cost almost $1,000 to recover from a moments inattentiveness with an impact wrench. They were trying to save money on alternative belts and were going through a number of them and eventually messed the threads up on the crank so badly that the variator came loose and destroyed the splines on the crank shaft and itself. Destroyed a crank that should have lasted up to 100,000 miles and a variator that should have lasted 36,000 to 50,000 miles. If using a spin-up impact wrench, you only let it whack 3 times. Anymore and you risk over torquing it. I have removed and replace my variator dozens of times with my Harbor Freight 12v impact wrench, and not a single issue! same here. although one time i didn't torque enough and the nut came loose at WOT. i use thread locker to prevent that from happening again. i see no problem as long as you thread the nut by hand first and then two or three 1 second blasts from your impact.

i don't know if anyone here has first hand experience with that scooter. did a little searching and found the service manual for you. files.meetup.com/237291/SYM_RV250_Service_manual.pdfscroll down to content and click "electrical equipment" then click "light/bulb". shows the wiring diagram and if you scroll down a little it explains how to replace. hopefully you can figure it out from there. great scooter by the way.

Thanks for the vid! This is exactly what I needed to know. np, i pulled the pins out with needle nose pliers instead of banging it on a table.

How do you hold the clutch to get the big clutch nut (inner one) to the right torque before you reinstall it on a scooter? if you're talking about this nut: set it on the floor and sit in a chair, using your feet to compress the spring then you can easily put the nut back on and tighten. i use an adjustable wrench to tighten and loosen like in the first vid instead of a vise.

I think this is more of a distraction attempting to get it set right than it's worth. Anything that takes your focus off the road is not a good idea IMHO. agreed. if i try to get it to work on my scoot i would only use it for long trips.

ok, so i know i said i wouldn't bump this thread again but i can't resist. went to the casino early today, big mistake. got there around 12:45pm and had to wait about 35 minutes before a seat opened up. played for 3.5 hrs and got crushed losing $280. biggest loss since i been back... sigh. went home, relaxed for awhile and decided to go back to play the evening crowd. got there around 8:45pm and had to wait about 30 minutes for a seat. sat down on a really good table with $200. lost the first hand i played and from that point on seemed like every hand was a winner. even many hands i was folding would have won. game died 2hrs into my session and i cashed out $716 for $516 profit. sweet! minus my huge loss from earlier ended up being a $236 day. with todays score i have quadrupled my initial poker roll. still be awhile before i jump in the bigger game. i probably need to quadruple my current roll or at least triple it before i take a shot at $2/$5. anyway, it's been going well, spent a little of my winnings but mostly just adding to the roll for now. i can't wait until i can buy that 250cc with poker winnings.
