Hello All,
It has been awhile since I have posted anything here as I have been recovering from a severely broken ankle, Anyway, the weather here is finally nice enough to take the scooter out of storage. I put the battery back in my scooter yesterday and she started right up and ran awesome. I checked her all over and noticed that the brake lights were not working. After checking things all over I discovered that over the winter a family of mice built a nest inside the back part of my scooter and they bit one of the wires in half. It doesn't appear to be a big problem fixing it but I ran out of daylight so it will have to wait until today or the weekend to get fixed. I did some research online and saw several suggestions of using peppermint oil to keep mice out of your scooter. Its sounds like it might work but I was wondering if any of my fellow peeps have any experience with this?

One wire? Considering what they might have done I'd say you got off easy. (you know how it is with seasonal "rental" properties)

Yep...only wire and I agree that I got off easy. I just thought I would share my experience and see if anyone else ever heard of or tried using peppermint oil as a deterrent.

Not sure about the peppermint oil... At least, the mice would be "minty-fresh"... LOL!!!A CAT usually works pretty well, but they are as hard on upholstery as the mice are hard on the wiring... Any my old tomcat used to make buddies out of the garage mice anyway. I'd think moth-balls might help. Most critters don't like the smell of them. I have mousies in my old Merc wagon, because it sits for months at a time, and if I let the scooter sit very long, they move in there too. I think the only answer is to simply open the seat, move the scoot off the stand and back up on it... Just make it seem like it's NOT a permanent "structure"... A little gentle disturbance goes a long way to "encouraging" the little whisker-pusses to go a long way... Away... Glad it was only ONE wire! Leo in Texas

Moth balls. Lots of them. Easy to just chuck down in the nooks and crannies. They're not messy and they evaporate and disappear after awhile so you don't have to hunt them down.
Chewing wires is one thing. Nesting is worse because they piss all over everything and the urine is highly corrosive.
