I've had my scoot for about 3.5 yrs now and My speedo seems to be accurate , sometimes as I pass a roadside radar sign it reads spot on and sometimes it reads about 3 mph slow . I always thought it was the sign not reading accurate . So as I was painting and cleaning my scoot I noticed a black rubber insert on the side of the rear part of the front fender . I realized it was for the speedo cable " to hold it in place " I'm sure it was always broke , but I drilled a hole through part of it and attached the speedo cable to it with a zip tie . Now everytime I go past one of the signs it is right on with my speedo . Not sure if having the line hanging loose was causing the speedo to malfunction at times or not ? All I know is that when it was hanging loose it was far from the rubber bracket insert and after I tied it back into place it dosent have the slack it once had it's nice and firm in place .i just don't know why that would make a difference . " unless the signs where calibrated over the winter "

wish mine was accurate. the only speed sign around here is in a 35mph zone and my speedo clocks in at 44mph while the sign flashes 35mph. i'd like to find out where the needle rests at an actual 45mph but don't want to risk a ticket for that info. lol

There are three or four on rt 21 which is a 45 mph main road , but most travel between 50 and 60 mph on it . It was unusual to pass all the signs and everyone read the same " and be acurate " past seasons . Now that I think of it they are usually always accurate in a car , so I am really thinking the cable was causing inaccuracy . If anyone knows why that would be please let me know. Thanks for the reply

Only thing I can think of is if the curves of the cable going up to the speedo are to tight the metal cable inside will bind inside on the curves . Alleyoop

Would it actually show a slower speed alleyoop? Seems either the cable twists as fast as the gearing, possibly shredding the cable lining in the process, or the gear splines ground off, or perhaps catch and release causing the speedo to bob (I've seen that). The cable itself can't be continuously wound tighter can it, which I assume would happen if the cable were actually being slowed down by rubbing against the lining?

Lol, thanks for the replies . I'm gonna have to do a couple test runs at a sign with the line tied up and then cut the tie and try a couple . I'll record it just incase its not just a coinsodence . Thanks again
