i stopped by a local shop that works on scooters and the mechanic has worked on the Boom Rugged scooters and he said they do have ceramic coating on the cylinder. he also said they are made better than a lot of the other Chinese ones out there. i have yet to have it run too hot even on very long rides with a lot of hills.

not sure if you have seen this, but I believe this link is to the PDF parts catalog for your bike: TMEC150T-8.pdfMichael thank you for the link. that is the parts for the one i have, this will come in handy if i need anything for it. i noticed that they do not carry the Boom Rugged scooter, only the parts if you contact them in china.

SaferwholesaleSpecs and more pics. i cannot personally verify how accurate the specs are. i cannot find info on whether or not SYM had their hand in the design so i won't speculate.

Congratulations! I have a very similar scooter: a JiaJue JJ150T-16 (Zuma Clone) which I purchased from Powersportsmax.com. I'm really liking these types of bikes for riding around town. mine is the clone of the Zuma 125, it rides great, doesn't have the shaking or vibrating a lot of the chinese scooters have.

it runs good, didn't even need valve adjustment which is rare for a new chinese scooter.

Hot engine

It is far more likely to be a lean condition causing your scooter to run hot, than your choice of engine oils. You say this is a project bike.....have you modified or removed the air intake system? Not knowing what your set up is now, or what parts have been changed or modified.....we are in the dark, and can only guess as to what's wrong. the one most common issue and i didn't think of it, must be old age.

Mineral oil runs much hotter than synthetic, i had a fuel injected 125 that would overheat if i used mineral oil and it was fine once i switched.

Hot engine

is the shroud all there? is the fan on it? i have seen people riding with no plastic on the front of the engine and it causes them to overheat. they do run hot because they are air cooled and when it is high temps outside they tend to run hot. if it is losing power after it gets hot then you have a possible overheating issue and need to make sure the oil pump is working and the fan is blowing air through to the top end of the engine.

i looked at the specs for a Boom Rugged 150cc scooter with a TMEC engine. according to the place selling it the engine has a ceramic coated cylinder and is built by SYM in Taiwan. i cannot find any info on this scooter except on the one site selling it. i went ahead and ordered one because it looks like it is a custom build and has stuff that no other one like it has. i looked all over and no other online seller carries the same model or brand. i think you can call China and have scooters built with any name you want on them and any paint scheme, etc. either way it is a cool looking scooter that looks like it can handle a lot of use.

For some reason I think it's the clutch? How do you tell if you have a bad clutch RPMs go up scooter slows down or drags with high RPM on takeoff. inspect the belt and variator too, the clutch will have glazed or cracked shoes and the bell will be glazed.

scrappy is my go to for parts when i get a new scooter, they have proven many times over to have good quality parts. ordering is super easy, Mo is very helpful if you have technical issues or need advice on your build, the shipping is fast and i don't think i ever got a damaged, defective or incorrect part from them. it's always wise to have an alternate for those times when a certain dealer is out of stock. may i suggest parts for scooters (PFS)? Thanks, i'll keep them in mind.

you don't need K&N. scrappydogscooters sells a nice pod filter that should work well for your setup.
