"for THAT money I'd buy one of their high-end larger displacement scoots"Agreed. By the same token, if green energy is your priority, there are far more affordable electric powered options available. You could spend the savings from the purchase of a cheaper e-scoot or e-bike on a solar generator and/are or wind generator system with batteries. It wouldn't provide enough power to go off-grid, but it would reduce your electric bill and provide an emergency power source (for those of us in hurricane country and tornado country). Whether you are a scooter enthusiast or an environmentalist (or both), its difficult to consider the Vespa Elettrica very desirable at that price. ABSOLUTELY!!!

They just don't come "machoer" than old Mose… He was God's Homie... Head of the posse... Joshua did fine but Moses was THE original!
So ya want some water? Let me whack this here rock... LOL! Ya got the whole Egyptian army after ya? Lemme split this here sea... Whew! What a guy!

At that price you could buy a slew of China 50cc scooters and rotate them. Even a 50cc Piaggio Fly with four valves is under $2500. I guess they think if they can sell the Vespa 946 at ten and a half grand with a 150cc engine they can sell anything. As "Bugs Bunny" used to say... "P.U. … You SAID it Brother!" Have a bone on the Old Chopper Guy!I've ridden Vespas, and do like them... That said though, there is a point where things are SOOOO over-priced ( especially that red ten-grand 150) that it makes NO sense to choose them over a good alternative at many times less money! Eight years back, while looking for a used scoot, I found a Vespa 300 in MINT shape with only 500 miles on it. The owner was "scared" of its acceleration (good grief!) and offered it for $2,000. I only declined as it just felt a little too small for me... Shoulda bought it and re-sold it! LOL! At least around here, Vespas don't seem to bring much more used than other (non-Chinese) brands. Doesn't speak well for their re-sale value, but does make for a good scoot at an affordable price!

I'll go with April 1... I think those born on April-Fool's day must endure more "dissing" than most, so it makes them more macho... LOL!
My new step-Son-in-Law was born on Feb. 29... 73 years ago. He's a successful and ruthless lawyer, and mighty macho... Tough old bird for sure!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

I agree with most of the above... TOO expensive and TOO slow! WAY too expensive and WAY too slow... If I really wanted minimal transportation, I'd build a motorized bicycle and get it titled.
And while I do like Vespas in general, for THAT money I'd buy one of their high-end larger displacement scoots. They're STILL too expensive, but at least they're not so slow... LOL!

Now UncaLeo, you of all folks should know about perspective. Plus the guy is sort of hunkered over leaning around to try to see her face. What gets me is she's wearing strappy heels. Heels, to shift a motorcycle? Egads! I don't typically wear my heels just driving my car, and it's an automatic. Sadly, if a bike manufacturer ran this ad today, it would be a photo rather than this delightful painting. Something to be said for the old days. >'Kat Kat... Not THAT much perspective there... THAT is a big old zaftig gal... LOL! No spike-heels wile you drive? gosh, how 'bout the BLINDFOLD? This must be an Italian market ad from the forties, judging by the girder-fork, but then the gal shaves under her arms... Maybe an American illustrator imported for the job... EEEEWWW!
You're certainly right about today's ads using photos... I used to do these swell illustrations. LOTS cheaper to use a free intern with a camera than pay for 75 hours of professional illustration... Sad! Spring's here! So enjoy, and RIDE SAFE! Leo

OK... So it brings back memories of 50 years ago... I know... I'm incorrigible HeHeHe!
Only thing wrong here is it's a 125, not a Harley and the illustrator painted the guy smaller than the gal!

"WHERE does one's plus-sized girlfriend sit?"You are so quotable, OCG. Your plus-sized girlfriend or even your petite girlfriend will just have to stay home and watch Bravo channel while you enjoy a ride without listening to a bunch of complaining. Wheelbender6, Hey pal, you have a point! Have a bone! Never looked at it THAT way... LOL! If your squeeze is like my little "Flying Squirrel" of long ago, she could, of course sit on that patch of orang behind the upholstery with room to spare for her pet Guinea Pig...

Not my style, but definitely good-looking. Now, WHERE does one's plus-sized girlfriend sit?
It's hard for me to imagine anything from HD being competitively priced... LOL... But some of their newer 750-class twins ARE pretty affordable. If ONLY HD would make one to resemble a classic Hog instead of a V-Twin Sport Bike... And to think, I griped about my new 1970 loaded-out Electra-Glide costing an OBSCENE $2,500 out the door...
How times do change!

I drove my scooter in 40° chilly after a near-year of not driving, to get him spring-tuned. Is that macho? Otherwise, I cooked without Mom's supervision for the first time. You know, her kitchen her worries I would burn down her house. Is that macho? Where ya' moving to, kev? >'Kat Kat, That's all pretty macho! I think you're ready for 400hp crotch-rocket with nitrous! Most macho thing I've done this week is eat a quart of my homemade chili... And I forgot just HOW macho my brew was... Cheesh! Ride safe! Leo

I'm doing a non macho thing this week, I'll be looking to down size to a smaller scooter. Yesterday I checked out the new PCX 150 and today I'm going to look at the new Kymco Like 150, both of them legit 70 mph scoots, so maybe that's a little macho. flyangler, I understand downsizing to a smaller scoot... Even my little Kymco Grandvista is getting a tad heavy at 365 pounds, for me when walking her backwards uphill in my drive... I REALLY "like" the Kymco LIKE. I believe it's actually a little over 150cc (160 or something) and the retro styling is right up my alley. Please do try to test-ride any 150 before buying though. I rode the Like a few years back, it's a swell scoot, but I believe calling it a legit 70-mph scoot may be a little optimistic... Well, maybe a LOT optimistic. I got it to 71 on the speedo, on a level road, with NO wind and that is probably an actual 65 at best. The Like IS one of the fastest 150cc class scoots, but a real world cruising speed up and down hills, encountering some wind, etc. it's probably a 55-mph bike. My old 250 will actually hit eighty-five on the speedo (actual 80) on level, no wind, etc. but real world up/down hill and light wind makes it a 65-mph cruiser. The Like would definitely be my choice in a new 150, but unless you are VERY lightweight yourself (say 125 pounds or so) don't count on anywhere near a 70-mph cruise. I do weigh 225, so any scoot is somewhat challenged... LOL! Best wishes on whatever scoot you decide on! They're ALL a lot of fun. Just be sure your choice will keep up with the traffic you need to run with. Ride safe!Leo in Texas PS: One scoot I've never tried but am intrigued with is the Genuine Buddy 170. They're TINY, light, nimble on teensy wheels, and look more Italian than some Italian scoots... Customer loyalty is high, and if serious downsizing is in order, a Buddy might just be a real hoot and with a 170cc mill, probably pretty quick. Not cheap, but slick scoots!

Kat,
I'm jealous! You have a scooter that RUNS! LOL!
It's warming up here, and I'm anxious to see what is really wrong with the Mouse... First, another new solenoid and battery. If she's still dead, it's off the dealer... (EEEWWWW!).
Gone are my days of yanking out a motor and performing major surgery...
It will be good to get some wind on my knuckles though!
Ride safe!

Any news on the Mouse? Hope you and the wife both are well. 2stroked, Many thanks for the caring! No news yet... Weather and health keeping me from working. Warming up though, so I hope to install a new solenoid, battery and hope for the best... Likely though, I fried something nasty. I'll find out! At least I have a really good B&M dealer who'll fix anything for a fair price... If necessary! The Missus and I are OK, but old age is really taking a toll. I'm having a lot of trouble with balance lately. One of these days, I'm toing to have to do something like go to a 3-wheeler. Not too soon I hope! Ride safe, Spring's 2 days away! Leo in Texas

Well, gotta go with HD since they managed to keep their image unbroken for over a century. However, I'm a BIG fan of Indians, both vintage and modern.
It will take DECADES for the new Indian to ever challenge the macho of HD, but if I was in the market for a new full-size bike, I'd be likely to go Indian nowadays.
