creaseuk I am thinking, if you started with a disc brake, do you have wheel with the disc on it and the caliper was on the old case? Hmm... Maybe you bought a scoot that was converted instead of built with it at the factory? If it isn't case mounted then you wouldn't have a problem though... Hmm...

Well thanks for the info man, A drum rear wheel should fit that swing arm I would think...then all you will need is a wheel instead of rebuilding the old block. Yeah, I just looked at my friend's GY6 today. The only difference I see is the back wheel has a disc mounted on it and it has a shock attached to an extra piece of metal that goes between the wheel and the muffler. The caliper seems to be mounted ont he piece of metal too, not sure what it's called, haha. Other than that it looks the same, even has the spot where the drum brake would go just doesn't have a drum brake in it.

Do you ever try to ride it off after the enricher finishes with it's warmup? Does the smoke continue if you try to ride it off after a couple minutes after you start it or does it continue? Do you ever try revving it for a minute or so while still on the stand after warmup? Does that get rid of the smoke or does it continue? What if you ride it off without warming it up? What's the weather like over there? No smoke today so far today, I guess it was a weather issue, the last few days it was cold, today it is hot. lol...

The DMV told me to register my scoot as a moped. When I asked if I needed a motorcycle endorsement or insurance they said they aren't required for scooters, but a good idea. The DMV told me to register my scooter as a moped also,,she handed me a moped plate then I told her it was a 150cc so she took the plate back and gave me a cycle tag for $65...I should have kept my mouth shut but did not want the hassle down the road,,especially when i roll a cop at 60MPH,,how do you explain that one...lol You don't, you act just as surprised as the cop you didn't spot before you passed them lol "I'm sorry officer, my speedo doesn't work and my transmission is acting a funny guy." Turn a ticket into a warning, but cops don't bother around here, even with my underbody lights which are illegal here. I park it right in front of a police station down the street from my house when I don't have my chain and I'm going to the store, have even talked to a couple and they say they just don't have the time for such trivial things. They told me as long as I don't create distractions for other drivers and accidents to just stay out of trouble haha.

Looks like it's possible to put a disc on the rear where the drum brake goes.

It smokes for several minutes after a cold start, specially if I give it throttle, it smells more like gas. Do you ever try to ride it off after the enricher finishes with it's warmup? If it's fuel, then it's time to check the head. A leak down test, or just go ahead and lap the valves. However, the fact it only happens when cold keeps my suspicion pointed at condensation. I wouldn't tear the head down unless there is a loss of power, or the smoke continues after warm up. My scoot will steam for about 10 minutes on a cold damp day after it has rained and appeared to dry, condensation gets all up in there anyway it can! haha JerryScript What about if your exhaust valve is still open when the engine is turned off, condensation can then also make it's way in there on a bad day, right? The thing about condensation is it can be tricky to know if it is or not unless you have some experience with steam. Steam can look a lot like smoke when coming out of the muffler, and can even carry the unburned byproducts from the muffler out into the air giving you the scent of gas. On a good day with still air you may notice instead of the "smoke" disintegrating in a straight line into the air behind the muffler, it may float upwards and once out of the blow of the muffler begin to look like steam again in it's cloud-like floating way as it disappears.

How much does THAT cost? I'm interested in how insurance works with scooters. If someone steals your scooter insurance buys you a new one, or just pays for parts of a new one? What about vandalism, do they replace the parts, and do they get the parts or do you have a choice in supplier? I would imagine you would have to find a shop for an estimate of the damage . most insurance companies send a check with the name of the shop and your name , so you both have to sign it in order to cash it. I would expect the insurance company to buy you a new scoot if stolen , as long as theft is covered in the policy. Don't you have insurance and on your scoot ? No, it's not required here, and I haven't really looked into it due to lack of funds, if I can't pay for gas most of the time I doubt I'll have enough for insurance until I get a new job haha

The problem is when we are talking about 4mm of bore over a stock 150cc Horse power can easily overcome that amount of displacement. A 61mm kit without the high performance mods such as exhaust and intake will not give you much , but add the extra fuel and air flow and your in business. There is no reason a stock bore can not reach the 60-65 mph range with the right head , and air flow upgrades , but try the 61mm kit with out those upgrades and you will never reach those speeds. I agree after you increased the air and fuel flow , along with a quality head , then there is no replacement for displacement. Unless we are talking about going from a stock 50cc to a 150cc or from a 150cc to a 250cc then I agree all the way . but a 4mm increase will not overcome a good increase in Horse power by increasing air and fuel flow. Now both together are unbeatable. For example I only went up to a 58.5 bore and with all the other mods I can hit speeds many with a 61mm cannot . now is that because of the 58.5 bbk ? I don't think so . its mainly due to the increase in air and fuel flow . What about the transmission upgrades, like the variator and clutch, don't those contribute to top speeds and reaching them?

What does insurance cover on a scooter? Why would someone on a scooter get insurance? Collision insurance? I have fire theft collision and vandalism on my Vespa. John How much does THAT cost? Well, my scoot spews out some smoke atm because I have it a little on the rich side. But only a very tiny bit and usually only at startup. Other than having a rich condition, I'm not sure.
Does it smell like gas or smell like oil or have no smell at all? If there is smoke it means it didn't completely burn SOMETHING, and it's most likely gas if not oil.

I hope you get it all figured out buddy. I agree , its probably from riding in all the weather and as an only means of transportation. I hope the broken v-slides don't bring to light another issue. Well, the bad idling and bad starting went away after I put the CVT back together, so I'm thinking I've been running with a bad slide for a while and not until the other one sort of broke did it make a sound. I noticed all the vibration that had been getting worse over time went away as well. I've got some issues I don't bother the forums with since I've learned a lot, I mostly ask here now when I need a more experienced user to clarify things for me or tell me if I'm doing it wrong or not haha.

My goodness lain ! , what's next ? It sounds as if you may need to start all over again. Since your nuts were loosening , your gonna have to check the gaskets. You were probably sucking in dirt from between the head and cylinder because of the loose nuts . if you found pieces of gasket , you will have to tear her down again and check that out . hopefully you do not have to remove the jug again , because you know what that means ! New rings and honing , or new kit again. Was it pieces of a metal gasket or not. Only the silver cardboard stuff. The only gasket I used that is like the gasket I took out of the oil, and since it's gotta be between the combustion chamber and the oil pan, is the gasket that goes on the bottom of the cylinder jug. I may also check the chain tensioner because that also used the same gasket type. The only other spot I remember there being that type of gasket is the intake manifold, but I doubt it could find it's way into the oil pan from the intake manifold. If there were no problems with anything, just the gasket, wouldn't I only need to replace the gasket? geh3333 yeah I have a lot of problems I suppose from running in horrible weather all the time and using my scoot as my main means of transportation in a city that cares only about main roads... barely. Like last night I found I heard a lot of clanking when I started up to go home. I have been outside all day cleaning the CVT and working some replacement parts in there because I found one of my plastic sliders broke, another was about to break, and the belt tore on the inside. I just cleaned the CVT till it shined like brand new metal, replaced the plastic slider things, and weighed out some weights and put in 3x8.45g and 3x8.00g weights because I wanted all even weights in there and those were what I have lying around. Something you may find interesting is, while comparing my old variators with my current "performance" variator I found that the backplate that I put the plastic sliders on is smaller than all the stock OEM variators, however the stock OEM backplate fits perfectly into the '"performance" variator. I thought it was weird because the sliders I had would not fit into the performance back plate so I used the stock backplate instead. Now I am currently working on how to remove a seized brake pivot from my rear drum, just came in to search the forums and internet for someone who has already removed one, found out what I'm gonna do and about to go back out and do that and grease it up right so it works right again.
