There is a big difference between a fuel pump, and a fuel petcock. Without the pump it would not work properly would it? Without the pump it would have free movement to push the fuel right through all of the carb because the gravity would keep pushing it down and out of the bottom of the tank right? Or does the float in the bowl of the carb stop that from happening? Just trying to get a better idea.

So The other day I removed and replaced the variator slides because they had broke. Now it seems the clutch may have been the culprit all along. When I am trying to rev up it feels like I am not getting any power until I have gotten some speed up or I am going downhill. I also hear a whining noise come from the CVT area when slowing down and stopping and it feels like I am being slowed down when I hear the whine noise and as soon as the whine noise stops the resistance I feel that feels like it is slowing down the scoot goes away and my wheels move freely. I am thinking something obviously isn't working like it SHOULD. The clutch seems to spin when moving the back wheel and it is hard to remove from the shaft, I have to pry it off with a screwdriver. Bad clutch bearings? I have another clutch in my parts bin, practically new. The one I am currently using is the clutch that came with the scoot from the factory way back in 2011. It has 1.5k yellow springs I installed, so I am thinking I will just take the good springs out and put them in my spare clutch. What do you guys think, bad clutch? I am going to take a look at the cvt again tomorrow, see if there's any other issues, I think the slides broke again because the vibration issue came back when the power issue arose, and I can hear screeching come from the CVT when I accelerate from stop, though that could be the clutch bell because it is smooth. I had bad vibration from a clutch with pieces of one of the inner pads broken off. You could really feel it when you got up around 60mph. It was out of balance of course, and a new clutch did the trick. Well I feel the vibration at all ranges, but when maintaining a speed for longer than a few seconds it stops vibrating and picks up leaving me to believe that it does work, just not properly. But maintaining any speed for longer than a few seconds is hard in the city, mostly stop and go with some stretches of pavement here and there.

How does this operate? Gravity feeds it when connected to a gas tank that is above it? What do I use in place of the fuel pump on the bottom of the tank to connect the hose to if not the fuel pump? Is there like some sort of connector for that as well or do I just connect it to the fuel pump?

I raised the clip on the needle, it leaned it out a bit and now can idle at 1500, but it feels like there is a loss of power in the high end, but the low end is great again.
Have a mostly full tank right now, everything is so delicately balanced on my ride it seems.

I've been wondering, what's the word for when a motorcyclist reaches a top speed then just excessively revs it in idle or something making tons of popping and high revving noises you can hear WAAY down the road. All the kids with sports bikes around my town have been doing it a lot. They will get to high speeds and while at that speed just start making tons of popping and revving noises as they glide down the road. Why do they do that anyways, is that not harmful to thier nice engines? o.o I hope it is Haha, yeah, I don't get it, I don't see the point in excessive noise, I try to make my ride nice and quiet, or as quiet as possible in the best working configuration. But I don't do things like rev and stuff to make noise.

done trying to fix this pile... anyone wants it come and get it. i'll post details tomorrow after i've cooled off. Been there, believe me, it can make you feel like it's hopeless... But it isn't hopeless until you lose hope. These machines are tiny and extremely simple in comparison to their big brothers. I am not sure if you have done everything, but I've been there when you've done everything 3 times, and it still won't work, only to do it over AGAIN to find I missed a tiny detail being a loose screw or maybe lack of knowledge liek when I did not know about gaskets so well. If your scoot runs at all, that is a good thing, it means it is still salvagable and it will work, with work.

One of the first things I did was remove the fuel pump and replace it with a petcock from Lowes,,after that I had no fuel delivery issues...then I moved up to a mikuni high volume fuel pump,,that thing will pump fuel 10ft up hill at low pressure. The stock pump is more like a valve petcock not a pump at all. Well, I have a pretty new pump, I mean I installed it a few months ago when I thought I had fuel delivery issues back then. The new pump never made any difference though and back then it turned out to be a carb issue that's why I ended up getting my keihin carb. What kind of petcock did you get at lowe's? Could you link me so I can see if they have it at my local store?

I picked up some of the helux tubing I used caliper on my tubing and it was all 3/16 That's the fuel tubing diameter or the vacuum tubing?

Hose is so cheap if I even gave it a second thought I would change it. John Been thinking about changing to clear tubing anyways, but not sure what kinds or diameter to use.

it could be a combo of both cracked line and pressure on the pump input. John No cracks in the hose, do you mean the pump? The pump also looks fine, no leaks or anything.

So, I have been noticing when I gas up the scoot acts like it is running richer. Does the fuel pump pump more when there is more gas in it because of the volume pressing against it, or is it just broken? The vaccuum hose is dry, so not sure if it is the pump or what.

Got a particularly neglected and roughed up scooter a little while ago (see itistheride.boards.net/thread/7580/saved-scapheap-prince-zombies) which i've nursed back to health, but the front brake has the handle broken off and sightglass is dryrotted to nonexistence. Does anyone have experience enough to offer advice whether it's best to just replace the upper portion of the brake, or if it's not worth the savings vs just replacing the front brake caliper-line-handle and all? Inspect the caliper, if it's fine just replace the hose, for safe measure, and the brake lever. You could try to restore the plastic glass for close to nothing, if it doesn't work you don't lose anything but time.

Gonna get a junk scoot and fix it up and convert it to a barebone design for the warmer weather. Take off all the plastic, hide the wires in the frame, etc.
