My buddies 150 cc scooter now swerves anytime we take it thru a turn. to the point where it feels like there is oil on the tire (There is no oil on the tire)...
She said that she was coming home from work, heard a bang then the swerve problem started.
Here is what we have done. We took the plastics off the rear of the scooter, pulled the motor. We have inspected the frame and did not find any cracks (although if someone knows of an area of the frame that needs to have special attention during inspection, please let me know) We found all the bushings to be in bad shape, I've ordered the new cross member and all the mounting bushings. I'm just waiting for them to arrive.
Now for my questions, would the bushings cause this? Should I look at replacing the rear tire as well? would a bad rear tire cause this?

Leo-- See, it's stories like that that make me feel like such a whiner. There are SO many others out there way worse off than me! I will admit though, if I end up a double-amputee, I will sell Peej before I attempt driving him with crutches! Egads!! >'Kat Anytime I think about how hard I have it at work or my life just plain sucks, I just think about our military guys and gals out in the desert and all of the sudden my work doesn't seem so bad and life not so hard. Hardest work I've done in a while, was Sunday and that was working on one of my toys. I swapped wheels and tires on my 4x4. While it was hard work, it was still done on a day that was about 80 degrees (instead of the 110 plus degree days that our boys and gals deal with). Each wheel wights about 30-40 lbs and the truck weighs 3 tons. Saturday I pulled a motor out of a 150cc scooter to change all of it's mounting bushings. That wasn't too bad. Leo, That dude on the crutches.... dang! Talk about nothing slowing a person down or getting in the way.

Guess speed and power aren't everything. Even old dogs can learn My Harley friend has told me more than once that (at least for him) it's got nothing to do with speed. It's all about the acceleration. So yes, a "little" scooter with pep is more fun than a big bike that's sluggish. (although I have to point out to 'bender that "lightweight" is a totally subjective thing--320+ pounds of scooter is NOT lightweight, at least not to this lil' 'Kat!) >'Kat hey Kat, I'll let you try my 1500cc wing.... then we can talk heavy... it's roughly 900lbs and has reverse (upgraded from the 1100 wing) Heavy has it's place, The wing, it's great out on the open road... just turn up the stereo, put your legs on the highway boards and set the cruise control. Around town, tho, it's a bit of a pig and stop and go traffic just sucks. Getting the leg over it, is a big chore for me. I tell the wife I could get on and off a new 1800 easier... but I don't think she's buying it.... But I still have a soft spot for the little 150cc scoot I started on. It is still the most fun I've had on a bike. It was limited, and wasn't the quickest thing nor the fastest thing, but damn it was just fun. You didn't have to think much to ride it, and it was forgiving if you had a lapse in technique (the big wing sure as heck isn't as forgiving, but isn't bad, I'd let Kat ride it, for example). I'd actually consider getting a 150 for running back and forth to work (lots of lane splitting, something that I can't do very well on the big ol' wing)

Did you notice that the unfortunate rider was on a 2000 Jonway according to those "snobby blogs" a Chinese scoot isn't supposed to last 6 months! You know..... I've never had a chance to ride a chinese scooter that was YOUNGER then six months old.... They have always been a few years old. The aircooled GY6 scooter are pretty bullet proof if you take care of them and don't ride them like you're on fire and the 150's are just fun!

From what I understand, here in California, all scooters have to be registered and insured, however, you can ride a 150 on a regular license, with no endorsement.
When I had my 150, I made a few mods that made the bike more fun. Racing variator, weights... that sort of thing. No BBK, or exhaust mods. Probably 70 bucks in go fast goodies.
The thing is, there is only so much you can do and by the time you tap it out, you could of put that money into a bigger bike and been ahead.
I went from a 150 to a 250, and there wasn't much of a performance jump, really. Then I went to a 500cc Aprillia. That was the best scooter I've ever owned, hands down. Then I went to a goldwing (1100cc) and now I ride a 1500cc goldwing. I have spent a grand total of 1500 bucks. That's right, only 1500 bucks.
I bought the 150 for 500 bucks. Traded it for the first goldwing. The 250 was given to me as a basket case (no money there, other then to paint it and for a few maintance parts), I still have the 250. Got the 500 for 1500 bucks, sold it for 1500 bucks, Sold my first goldwing for a 1000 bucks(I could of got 2000.00 out of it easy, but I sold it to a friend) and bought my current goldwing for 1500 bucks.
My point is, cheap bikes are out there and it just doesn't make sense to dump a ton of money into one just to gain 5mph.... or to get off the line quicker. Get your endorsement, buy a bigger bike.
Oh btw, insurance on a goldwing is dirt cheap... I'm paying 13.00 a month for full coverage. Of course, I'm 45, with a spotless record, BUT I'm still on my permit. That right.... I ride a 1500cc, 900lbs bike on a motorcycle learners permit... LOL (I'm actually scheduled for the class, something I should of done long ago), and I have three other cars insured thru them as well.

Don't get me started man.... Living in the peoples republic of Cali, I pay 82 bucks a year for my 250 scoot, I paid 82 bucks a year for my 500cc apprillia, I paid 82 bucks a year for my 82 goldwing, and now for my 1500 cc goldwing. And don't even think for a minute about letting them lapse.... The penalties will eat you alive. My Ridgeline (2007) was 200 bucks last year, but when I got it, it was like 500 bucks a year, my big Jimmy is 92 bucks a year and the wife's 1997 Infinity is 98 a year...... Emissions on the trucks and cars, every two years and it becomes a nail bitter with older cars and trucks (way to stick it to the working poor).... Oh yea, and you register and insure 50cc bikes here. Fail to pay your registration and they will tow your junk (if it's out over six months), and they will put you in collections as well. Uncle Moonbeam (our governor), gets in your pockets deep... don't let me start telling you about the Franchise Tax Board....

Generally, on 150's, if I'm running just a uni and exhuast, I leave the Pilot stock. I usally just move up a size on the main jet (if it was running good in stock config) and go from there.

I have rules for buying any bike.... My rules go like this.... No paperwork, walk way... I don't care, I won't buy a bike without a title. The other big one for me is, In state and current registration. Sure, I pay more, but in california, it's not always easy to get them registered and they will refuse to register many new bikes. (carb certification makes me want to buy a whole fleet of old skool two stroke smoke machines)

yeah, sounds like the needle valve is leaking a little. Before you go tearing into the carb which may or may not be beyond your mechanical skills, try running about a cup of seafoam in the tank at your next fill up then run the snot out of the bike. Manytimes it will clean up a sticking needle valve. Cheap and easy to try.
I still think you are having a grounding issue or a bad plug boot.

sounds like my kind of bike.... Have you seen some of the 1000cc naked goldwings running around with superchargers? My little 1100 draws a little attention. You don't see too many goldwings with skulls painted on them.
