Sometimes you might be better to get a good running used . The reason I say that is because the seller msy have worked out the bugs . Even with brand you will still have some wrenching to do .

It sounds like sonething is loading down the system . Doing the conversion is kind of s fresh start . It also doubles the power , all lights will be dc instead of ac .

To get starter clutch you will need to drain the oil and remove the right side cover . The part of the case thst holds the crank does not need to be opened .
If you kick start it and it runs well with out any strange noises I say fix it .

Yes the other box is the alarm . I would not be so quick to condem the regulator . Find the stator plug and unplug it . Then check the ac voltage on the yellow and white direct from the stator st idle and 4000rpm .

If the starter is turning and not the engine. I would pull the starter out and check the shaft splines . If they are good I would move to the starter clutch.

Have you contacted nycscooterparts.com yet . There is a guy there John he can help . You have nothing to loose . John I looked on the website and the pics of the stators weren't detailed with mount sizes or a good enough angle to let me see the wires. If I can't find one in town I'll probably just call them and ask. You can have the shops in town call too , we supply shops and provide tech help for them also . John
