Want to get a performance CDI but having trouble figuring out if I need ac or dc. Here is what I've got:
Headlights only turn on with engine ....................................... AC Engine continues to run with battery disconnected ................... AC Only 1 wire to the 2-pin connector ..........................................DC Size of OEM CDI is big (90x50x25) ..........................................DC
ARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very simple turn the KEY ON get a 12v light tester or a multi meter and test the bottom wire on the two plug of the CDI, if it using a 12v light tester and it Lights up it is a DC CDI, or if using a Multi Meter and it registers 12V its a DC CDI, IF NADA it is a AC CDI. No guessing with this test you will know which type of CDI you have. All other things, size number of wires etc can stir you wrong and cost you money. Alleyoop
