I have a 2008 Vog 260 (same scoot) and I'm about to turn 14,000 miles. I've been all over this thing so I hope I can offer you guys some insight when things go wrong. Hi Mike, this is interesting, I did not remember what 250 scooter you had. I had a man buy a regulator for a fuel injected model, it was something that I matched up and would need some figuring out. After he installed the regulator. Then he tells me it still does not run. I had no idea that the scooter did not run, I understood it had burned wired on the regulator. Enough of my babble. Can you snap a picture of your regulator (is it the same for the fuel injected model) with wire color. Perhaps some tracing on any odd balls. John

A/F adjustment or jetting will also decrease power. If your running stock set up that might be the problem. John I would usually expect to have some sort of bogging or hesitation if it were an air fuel issue. But its still good to check. I'm still stuck on it being a CVT issue . its also a good idea to check the valves. Just let us know when you are ready and we will walk you through it. opening up the cvt and doing maintenance will not hurt. John

you don't get a stable carb adjustment with misadjusted valves. Riding in high heat would be the time for valve lash to go off, if you under 2000 miles on the engine. If you have not ever checked valve lash now is the time.

I would look to see if the seat back comes out. The gives you a window to the engine or a floor board.

There Are Two Wires That Attach To The engine one is the stator harness and the other is the engine and there can be more than one engine ground. If you know of others please show us/me. John The answer is literally right in front of you, please read what you quoted so you will understand... I highly doubt you forgot there is also a wire that goes to the transmission, maybe you did, I don't know. That's why I said read before you quote, because you misread what I said. It's really not that serious, but when you do that you make people get confused and can lead someone away from useful information. OK I have worked on many 50 and 150cc engines. I pull them out to rebuild them. There is a vent from the gear box. I have not seen a wire. Again if I'm mistaken please show it to me/us. Is this in any diagrams? John

Do Not Cut The Engine Ground wire, You Will Burn Your Stator Ground The First Time You Hit The Electric start. I would remove the clutch and overhaul it. Be sure the variator is not binding either. If you want to change the timing or Rev limiter, go with a different cdi and coil. John No one said anything about cutting engine ground wires, read before you quote. The clutch needs to be overhauled, the variation needs to be checked for binding.

Try cutting the wire that goes to the transmission case, it will remove the rev limiter on stock CDIs. That's how a lot of 50cc 4 strokes are though, but you could try some different variator weights to tune the transmission as well. You need to check for compression. Pull out the spark plug, place your finger over the spark plug hole. Crank the engine it should push your finger off the hole.

Valve lash can be tricky, in the sense the seats can move around. I had to adjust valves like 4 times in like two weeks. Then its been thousands where it holds the adjustment.
